    1. [BOSCHONG] Fwd: [BUSHONG] A new DNA Test
    2. All, I posted the following to the Bushong website today. I am copying it here to express my apologies to those who contributed to Richard Bushong Sr's DNA test without previous proper recognition. I am sure that Rick's intentions were well in recognizing me, but incorrect. Please, everyone thank those, as I do thank them, who support the DNA testing with their contributions. Gloria, Rick, and all family members, thank you for allowing me to participate in my small way to these forums. sincerely, Herb _______________________________________________________________________________ Rick and Bushong Relatives I appreciate Rick's accolades for my participation in the DNA testing. However, I do not deserve credit for contributing to the latest Bushong DNA test of Rick's father. I extend my apologies for this misconception to all those who did make their contributions to this latest DNA test. I also did not request recognition for contributing to Steve Bosang's DNA test, however Gloria was generous enough to share that information. I am much more comfortable in making any small activities that I can without open recognition. I would appreciate to remain that way. I agree with both Rick and Gloria that a larger range of family lines do need to participate in the DNA program to get a better understanding of the interrelationship of the later immigrants, unassigned lines, slave descendents with the Bushon/Bushong names, and even our European namesakes. Obvious this openness intent should not be to prove or disprove family lines but to allow a better dialog of the genealogical researches that are ongoing. If a collective of those of us who can afford to help those who are unable to pay for their own DNA tests will assist in their tests, a more diverse participation may be possible. This not a request -- just a consideration. Everyone, please recognize that my contributions to the Bushong family tree is infinitely small compared to those researchers who regularly post their findings on the various forums and in the old Bushong Bulletin. I must say that I immensely enjoy reading all of the contributions that family members share with the rest of us and encourage more members to openly share their own family histories. Thank you all Herb -----Original Message----- From: Rick Bushong <rickbushong1@gmail.com> To: bushong <bushong@rootsweb.com> Sent: Fri, Mar 22, 2013 10:11 am Subject: [BUSHONG] A new DNA Test Readers, Herb Bushong has done quietly done a lot for Bushong research. When one researcher couldn't believe their theory, that David Bosang was a Bushong was wrong and would not accept the genealogical evidence. Herb stepped up and paid for a DNA test for a Bosang, and the test proved there was no relationship to the Bushong lines. Now, most researchers understand this fact. Now Herb has gone a step further and has paid for another DNA test, this time to get a necessary additional DNA test from descendants of James S. Bushong and Drusilla Stout, to try and ascertain if there was indeed a break in the the Bushong line. As you'll recall, there was a test on one of James and Drusilla's sons, James Wilson Bushong's descendants, and it showed that he was NOT related to Bushong. But it was a near perfect match to Mitchel. This suggesting that James S. Bushong was adopted or the product of and affair with a Mitchel. Jame's supposed uncle and aunt were John Mitchel and Sally Bushong, and his parents had always been known as George Bushong and Lydia Rush. So now thanks to Herb, my father, has been tested and we may be able to disprove James S. Bushong's father as George. We shall soon see, as the DNA administrator has promised the results this week or so. My father, Richard Bushong is a great grand son of James S Bushong and Drusilla Stout. Herb is doing much more that many researchers to help settle and prove the Bushong Family Tree. We all owe a big thanks to him. Thank you Herb! 3. Adjustment on date for Lab results for Richard Benjamin Bushong Sr. I checked with the Lab this afternoon and they are now telling me that the results won't be in until May 10. They must have a lot of lab work from other surnames. So we wait. Please someone post to the other List and correct the misinformation on it. Thanks, Gloria ------------------ -----Original Message----- From: Russell Bushong <chochoruss@aol.com> To: boschong <boschong@rootsweb.com> Sent: Fri, Mar 22, 2013 11:39 am Subject: [BOSCHONG] The DNA testing - Cat's out of the Bag - Richard Benjamin Bushong Sr. is our participant Boschong Subscribers, I see where Rick has announced on his List, the name of the participant in the DNA test in the Joseph Hill Bushong lineage, s/o of James Bushong and Drusilla Stout. That means that Rick must have arrived in Arizona to visit his father, since his father told me last month that his son was coming to the States this month. Some of the information posted to the other List is incorrect. It is true that Richard Benjamin Bushong Sr., father of Rick Bushong, submitted to the Bushong DNA project. He did so willingly because I called him directly on the telephone, explained to him who I was, and what I wanted, was totally honest with him, telling him about the hostility between Rick and myself. He gladly said he would participate. A very nice, cordial and understanding man. I did this because we needed another participant from the James Bushong and Druscilla Stout line to be tested to rule on where the Mitchell came into the picture and he was the likely candidate. Rick had adamantly told me in no uncertain terms that neither he nor anyone else in his family would participate in the DNA testing as long as I was the Administrator of the project. I called his bluff. To correct the misinformation on the other List, those that paid for the test were: Gloria Neiger Bushong, John and Ann Fahay, and Susan Lund. The test cost $154 and we split it 3 ways. The DNA kit was ordered by me on 26 February. It usually takes about 4 weeks from the time it is returned to the Lab to get the first results which puts the date around the beginning of April if we are lucky. Herb Bushong was NOT the contributor of the testing for Richard Benjamin Bushong Sr. as I told you above. However Herb did pay for the testing of Steve Bosang and we all greatly appreciate that. Everyone else who has participated has paid for their own testing. There's no doubt that Herb is a wonderful guy and so is his wife and a willing helper with research as you all well know from past posts. He also did a lot of leg work for Carol W. Bell for the Bushong Bulletins. And lastly another participant, off of Andreas, is paying for his own test to be done. He told me he is ordering his Kit today. 3. Thanks John for sharing the obit. Using the obit, I called the Shelby County Tennessee health department but they would not give any information from the death certificate over the telephone. Said you had to be an immediate family member to even get the certificate. I called the Funeral Home that handled the burial, but they didn't know as they didn't have that information. So tonight I will make one more telephone call to hopefully be able to fill in the parents of Mary Elizabeth Bushong. Gloria

Hope my probate wasn't on it. --------------------- Meanwhile there may be another Bushong who will be taking the DNA testing. We'll see. And we will know the results of the testing of the Bushong from the James Bushong/Drusilla Stout lineage sometime around the first of the month. (April). This should tell us if James Bushong was actually a Mitchell. ----------------------- I am happy that you all are making family connections on the List. The full two weeks allotted to the trail of criminal cases has been taken up, and there remain two or three cases to be taken up today before juries. Criminal court will continue before Judges J. Q. Van Swearingen and E. H. Reppert next week. There are about 25 non-support, surety of the peace and juvenile cases to be taken up before the judges at that time in addition to the regular routine work. A large number of criminal cases were disposed of yesterday, the judges remaining until late in the evening to clear the calendar. SHAMROCK MAN NOT GUILTY OF ROBBERY Metro Hoontane, alias Metri Kozovich, in a verdict returned before Judge Van Swearingen at 7 o'clock last evening was acquitted of assault and battery with intent to rob and robbery {kill}. It was alleged that Hoontane, with three other men, attacked PETER BUSHON at Shamrock a few weeks ago, and robbed him of $340. It was alleged by the commonwealth that the men shot at BUSHON five times and then hit him over the head with a blackjack before they relieved him of his cash. -------------------------------------------------- Researched and Submitted by Gloria Neiger Bushong

I suspect that may be where this article refers as there is also a Murphytown there and is much closer to Pittsburgh than Wood County, Ohio is. ________________________________ From: Russell Bushong <chochoruss@aol.com> To: boschong@rootsweb.com Sent: Wednesday, March 20, 2013 8:42 PM Subject: [BOSCHONG] Oil on Bushon land in Wood County, Ohio - 1899 Boschong Subscribers, How many of you knew that not only did Pennsylvania produce a lot of coal, gas and steel, but oil. My Uncle Casey worked for Kendall Oil in Pennsylvania. And they also drilled for oil in Ohio. The reference to Wood County and Murphytown would have to be Ohio since there isn't a town or county by those names in Pennsylvania. I'm not sure which Bushon farm this would be on in Ohio as there were a lot of them there. Maybe someone knows? --------------------- The Titusville Herald Titusville, Pennsylvania Wednesday, 5 April 1899 Page 3, Column 3 LATE OIL NEWS ----------------------- NEWS FROM THE SOUTHWEST A Good Deep-Sand Well near String town. Pittsburg, 4 April -- (Special) -- In the deep sand territory near Stringtown, Tyler county, the South Penn Oil company has drilled in its No. 2 on the P. G. Wright farm and has a good producer. The well made five barrels the first 18 hours and is still drilling/ In the same district the South Penn Oil company has shot its No. 14, F. R. Ball and increased its production to 160 barrels a day. The wildcat on the Garner farm, north of Proctor, Wetzel county, has been drilled through the Big Injun and is a duster in that formation: it will probably be drilled to the Gordon. Southwest of the Murphytown development in Wood county, Barnsdall & Co. have drilled in a test well on the BUSHON farm and have a 20 barrel producer. The location is slightly in advance of developments and gives sufficient room for several locations in the vicinity of the new strike. Operations in the Murphytown district have been very quiet for several months, that end of the extension having been very thoroughly drilled over. Both the Ogdin and Hendershot pools have very few locations left and no hope of extending either in any direction. -------------------- Researched and Submitted by Gloria Neiger Bushong ------------------------------- To unsubscribe from the list, please send an email to BOSCHONG-request@rootsweb.com with the word 'unsubscribe' without the quotes in the subject and the body of the message ------------------------------- To unsubscribe from the list, please send an email to BOSCHONG-request@rootsweb.com with the word 'unsubscribe' without the quotes in the subject and the body of the message

    1. Re: [BOSCHONG] Did Our Bushong Ancestors own slaves? Well yes they did.
    2. The three sites I am most familar with in Lancaster County would be the Pinetown Bushong Mill Covered Bridge: over the Conestoga River and you can read more about that on Wikipedia, Bushong's Mills which are written up on millpictures.com, located on the S. side of Quarry Road [1]http://www.panoramio.com/photo/85309424 And the Muddy Creek Luthern Church which is located on Reading Road or Rt. 272, 1/2 mile off the turnpike, exit 286 at Adamstown, PA. That is it. Judy On 03/20/13, Russell Bushong<[2]chochoruss@aol.com> wrote: Oops, Well that certainly didn't come out right did it? I apologize for that too quick response. May I suggest that anyone who is interested in the Bushong slaves, do a search of the BOSCHONG Archives with the word slave and slaves to see how many documents I have put on the List already concerning slaves. I have worked very hard to provide a lot of information to this List. It would be appreciated if we could cover some new ground or a topic that someone is stuck on. There certainly are plenty of those. Like Elizabeth Bushon in 1760 or the unidentified Bushongs in Ohio or why there aren't any obits for some of the early Bushongs or even a mention of them in newspapers. Or why there aren't any early chancery records or orphan court records available in Pennsylvania for Bushongs. :) Or where some of the early Bushong land was physically located in reference to today. Since you live in Pennsylvania Judy, I would think you would know where all this land that I transcribed the Deeds for is actually located today. That would really be a big help since then we could use Google earth to see them for ourselves.
