    1. Re: [BOSCHONG] How does the family of Delilah Bushong and Lt. Edward Bushaw/Buchan/Bushon of War of 1812 connect?
    2. Mark Bushong
    3. Interesting post. The descendants of James and Lucinda are easy to track. Thus far, no one has been able to locate the burial location of Delilah and Henry Derflinger. And , of course, what became of James Bushong Sr. ? And then the question is, what line of Bushongs did James Sr. come from. ? There are still a lot of unanswered questions. Living descendants of James and Lucinda still reside in the Union County Ohio area. This may be a question to ask Michele Bushong Kodama. She has researched this side of the family. I do not know if she is part of this news stream or not. -----Original Message----- From: boschong-bounces@rootsweb.com [mailto:boschong-bounces@rootsweb.com] On Behalf Of Russell Bushong Sent: Tuesday, April 02, 2013 2:39 PM To: boschong@rootsweb.com Subject: [BOSCHONG] How does the family of Delilah Bushong and Lt. Edward Bushaw/Buchan/Bushon of War of 1812 connect? Good Morning Boschong Subscribers, Back in March 2007, I posted some information about Lydia Bushon who married Christopher Cline. The question of lineage for Lydia Bushon has yet to be addressed and answered. While researching Delilah Bushong and her daughter Nancy Jane Bushong, I suddenly realized that in the 1870 census Delilah and her family and Christoper Cline, the husband of Lydia Bushon deceased, and his new wife Lucinda, are living as neighbors! Soooo what is the connection to these two families since Lydia Bushon was reported in the HISTORY OF LOGAN COUNTY to be the daughter of the Edward Bushaw/Buchan/Bushon, a Frenchman on a British ship in the War of 1812. I'm pretty sure that the misspelling of the Bushon name was due possibly to the fact that the information was being given by a Cline descendant who did not know how to spell Lydia's last name. His name on the account of Admiral Perry was spelled Lt. Edward W. Buchan and of course, we all know that an o can look like an a and an s like a c. {Buchon?} ------------------------ FACT: Lydia Bushon married Christopher Cline 15 Mar 1836 in Logan County, Ohio. The father of Lida Bushaw {Bushon} was a Frenchman, and was taken prisoner by the Americans at Perry's victory on Lake Erie. He was a sailor on a British ship, and when the Americans jumped on board his vessel, and demanded his sword and pistols, Bushaw {Bushon} stuck the point of his sword downward in the deck, broke it in three pieces, and threw his pistols overboard. He finally espoused the American cause, and died at Chillicothe. Lida came to this county with relatives." ------------- Now the above account in the history of Logan county cannot be totally ignored since it is quite possible that Lida (Lydia) Bushon's father could have served in the War of 1812. We know that there was a Edward W. Buchan mentioned by Perry that served and he was on the side of the British during this battle. Many men from Canada served for the British and many were French from Quebec area. So did this Edward leave the States to go to Quebec to serve during the War and then return to the States and somehow his daughter made it to Logan County Ohio with other relatives? It was then called to my attention that this person was interested so I called this person to give them the information on how to order a kit. Meanwhile, I have asked a Bushong who has roots going back to Canada to participate but have not heard back from him. Contacting the African American Bushon's is harder then you think. Last year I called several African Americans to tell them about the DNA testing but was never able to get them to return my telephone call. I believe I have mentioned this before. I also contacted several historical societies in the area of Ohio where these Bushon's lived to tell them about the testing hoping that someday one of the Bushon's would be interested in tracing their roots back in time to a white slave owner father. This will be all I will post until Monday. Everyone have a blessed Easter weekend. DNA Administrator Gloria Neiger Bushong

    1. [BOSCHONG] Virginia - Northern Neck Grants - COX
    2. Russell Bushong
    3. Boschong Subscribers and Debra in particular, There are several Cox families that married into Bushong families as everyone well knows. There are a lot of mentions of the name Cox in the BOSCHONG Archives so you can review December 2004, November 2004, February 2005, August 2006, September 2007, March 2009 and October 2011 which is just a few of the posts. Debra, There are literately hundreds of COX grants so I am just putting some of them here to give you a sample. I would suggest that if you are interested in any of the Northern Neck grants that you go to the following website and following these instructions: www.lva.virginia.gov INSTRUCTIONS Once the Main LIBRARY OF VIRGINIA page opens look for: FOR THE PUBLIC and then under that USING THE COLLECTIONS Click on USING THE COLLECTIONS When this opens, you will see ALPHABETICAL. Under that is a link so click on ALPHABETICAL LISTINGS When that page opens Scroll down to the letter N At the end of the N list you will see NORTHERN NECK LAND PROPRIETARY RECORDS (Last listing under N) Click the link NORTHERN NECK LAND PROPRIETARY RECORDS A couple of boxes will come up for searching. I use the BOTTOM set of boxes, typing in a surname then hitting GO. Everyone with that surname will come up in alphabetical order. It will give you a description of the property which is what I have been putting on the List BUT it also gives you the option of actually seeing a map of the Grant. Have fun. ------------------ AMBROSE COX 25 August 1800 - Montgomery County 290 acres on Indian Creek a branch of Little River waters of New River adjoining the land of Peter Reid AND 26 August 1800 305 acres on waters of Indian Creek a branch of Little River waters of New River adjoining Samuel Vancels and Thomas' survey ---------------------- BENJAMIN COX 5 October 1822 - Wythe County 23 acres on waters of Peek Creek AND 25 June 1823 225 acres on waters of Peek Creek ---------------------- CARTER COX 18 July 1809 - Montgomery County 120 acres on Beaver Creek waters of Little River a branch of New River adjoining land of Abijah Booth AND 10 January 1819 - Montgomery County 700 acres on waters of Indian Creek a branch of Little River of New River ------------------------- DAVID COX 30 September 1772 - Hampshire County 77 1/2 acres on Potowmack River adjoining Friend Cox {Friend is a legitimate first name for this man} -------------------------- DAVID COX 1 June 1782 - Jefferson County (KY) 1000 acres on Coxes Creek adjoining Isaac Cox --------------------------- ENOCH COX 2 August 1796 - Montgomery County 200 acres on Chesnut Creek a branch of New River adjoining Davis's line ------------------------ EZEKIEL COX AND JOHN AWL 3 June 1799 - Montgomery County 200 acres - no description ------------------------- FRIEND COX 29 March 1762 - Hampshire County 240 acres on Potomack River and Little Cacapehon beginning just below the mouth of Little Cacapehon AND 31 March 1762 195 acres beginning on Potomack River opposite to the lower end of an island --------------------------- FRIEND COX 23 December 1786 - Ohio County 308 acres on Ohio River. 3. Part 1 of 3 ---------------- Augusta County Virginia Chancery Suit 1842-023 Instituted 1840 Heirs of Philip Bushong et al VS Administrator of Isaac Sellers et al To the Honorable Lucas P. Thompson, Judge of the Circuit Superior Court of Law and Chancery for Augusta County, humbly complaining. Shews unto your Honour: Your Orators Philip, George W. Washington, John, Catherine, Sally, Elizabeth, Mary Ann and Daniel Bushong, infants under the age of 21 years by Elizabeth Bushong, their mother and next friend, humbly represent: That they are the children and Heirs at Law of a certain Philip Bushong, deceased, late of Augusta County, who departed this life in the year ---- intestate, whereby his real estate descended to them. That the said intestate in his life time time purchased from a certain Isaac Sellers, a small parcel of land, supposed to contain about 20 or 30 acres, part of a tract of about 80 acres which he owned adjoining the plantation of said Bushong. The price agreed upon was $8 per acre, to be paid within such reasonable time as would suit the convenience of the parties; A deed of conveyance to be made with general warranty, on payment of the purchased money and the said Bushong to pay interest on the money while it should be in his hands. The said Sellers was to be at liberty to cut 3 acres of the timber at his discretion at any time within two years from the time of said purchase. The said contract was verbal, but has been partly executed. The parcel purchased was laid off from the rest of the tract, by a line agreed upon and marked, and possession was delivered to the said Bushong, who in his lifetime cleared and enclosed the greater part of it. The said Sellers, as authorized by the contract, cut and took off the greater part of the timber. Since the death of the said Bushong, the said Sellers has refused to carry out said contract completely into effect by conveying said land to your Orators, though the purchase money with the interest therein has been tendered to him on the part of your Orators, by their said mother and next friend. In tender consideration of the premises, and that your Orators are without relief except in a Court of Equity, they pray that the said Isaac Sellers may be made a Defendant to this Bill and compelled to answer the same on oath. that he may be required to convey the said land to your Orators by a good and sufficient deed with a general warranty. That they may be granted in the possession thereof and That such other and further relief may be greater then as is equitable, etc. BALDWIN AND STEWART, p. g. ----------------- TO BE CONTINUED: Researched, Transcribed and Submitted by Gloria Neiger Bushong

    1. [BOSCHONG] The Fogle family of Powell's Fort, Shenandoah Co. VA & the Bushongs
    2. Russell Bushong
    3. Boschong Subscribers, Back in the late 1990s I was in contact with some Fogle descendants who were trying to tie their Samuel Jacob Fogle into our Michael Fogle and Mary Bushong. At that time we could not find a connection. But recently when the Shenandoah County Virginia Chancery Records came on-line, I found the connection and have been sitting on some crucial Fogle information, hoping that someone would contact me from the lineage of Samuel Jacob Fogle asking me if I knew anymore about the Fogle family. Those people I had worked with long ago had changed their e-mail addresses as many have done so it was impossible to contact them. Finally this past week two related Fogles contacted me, one in Washington State and one in Ohio State so I was able to share with them what I knew! The Chancery suit is a genealogist's dream. It seems that a Shenandoah County Chancery Suit instituted in 1908 after the death of Samuel Fogle in 1907 by his Heirs, took us all the way back to Michael Fogle Sr. with 4 of his 8 Heirs and tied that Samuel into the family of Michael Fogle Jr. married to Mary Bushong through Michael's father. I have posted about this family on the List so check the BOSCHONG Archives for the months of January 2006, July 2009 and March 2012 for further information. ----------------- What I knew in the March 2012 post before finding the Chancery suit: Michael Fogle Sr. married Margaret Burk in Shenandoah County, Virginia 27 September 1792 and MIGHT be the parents of the following Fogles: Michael Fogel Jr married Mary Bushong Philip Fogel married Mary "Polly" Burner Daniel Fogel with wife Mary " Polly" Coffman Leah Fogel - Unmarried Magdalene Fogel - Unmarried Elizabeth Fogel married Solomon Stosnyder ------------ NORTHERN NECK LAND GRANTS Shenandoah County Michael Fogle 6 October 1800 23 Acres in Powells Big Fort adjoining Moses Syver, Christian Pereenpile and c. --------------------- Now with the 1908 Chancery suit, I can confirm that this couple had 8 children because it says so in the suit and I know for sure that they included the following: 1. Michael Fogle Jr. married Mary Bushong 2. Philip Fogle married Mary "Polly" Burner 3. Daniel Fogle married Mary "Polly" Coffman 4. Eve Fogle who never married AND Possibly these children are some of the other four not named in this civil suit: 5. Leah Fogle who never married 6. Magdalene Fogle who never married 7. Elizabeth Fogle who married Solomon Stosnyder 8. Unknown Fogle -------------------- In the 9 March 1908 Chancery Suit, which you can read for yourselves at the Virginia State Archives website by searching Shenandoah County Chancery with the name Fogle, you will see an easy to read suit because it is typed. We learn the following: Michael Fogle Sr. lived in Powells Fort and died leaving 8 Heirs: Only 4 are named in this particular 1908 suit: 1. Michael Jr. 2. Philip 3. Eve 4. Daniel ----------------------- Michael Fogle Sr.'s son Phillip Fogle at time of his death left 3 tracts: 89 acre tract 17 acre tract 23 acre tract - 1800 Land grant of his father Michael Fogle Sr. ------------------------- Michael Fogle Sr's son Philip Fogle had the following children: 1. Samuel Fogle married Rebecca Teater 2. Jacob Fogle married Martha Carrier. (Divorced?) 3. Catharine Fogle who married a Shipe 4. Barbara Fogle 5. Sophia Fogle who married a LaCount 6. Mary Fogle who died single leaving no Heirs -------------------------- At the time of Suit, Philip Fogle's son Jacob Fogle was dead and so was his wife. Two heirs of his are named: 1. C. L. Fogle married to Ann and living in Woodstock 2. Rachel Fogle married to William Fultz and living in Swover Creek, Virginia ------------------------- At time of Suit, daughter of Philip Fogle, Catharine Fogle married to a Shipe are both dead leaving the following Heirs: 1. E. G. Shipe married to Elizabeth and living in Edinburg, VA 2. William Shipe who is deceased but leaving Heirs as follows: a. R. L. Shipe married to Lula and living in Hawkinstown, Virginia b. Lilly Shipe married to Wallace Cook and living in Ohio c. Charles Shipe living in Winchester, Virginia ------------------------ At time of Suit, Philip Fogle's daughter Barbara Fogle is still living but not married ------------------------- At time of Suit, Philip Fogle's daughter Sophia Fogle LaCount is deceased but leaving the following Heirs: 1. Jack Brannan married to Gussie and living in Grafton, West Virginia 2. Maggie McInturff married to Will McInturff and living in Edinburg, Virginia ------------------------- THEN Philip Fogle's son Samuel left the following Heirs: 1. Mark B.Fogle who married Mollie {Marietta Oates} and lived in Ashland, Kentucky 2. Daniel B. Fogle who married Doshie Ann and lived in Woodstock 3. Charles Fogle who lived in Ashland, Kentucky 4. Viola Fogle who married Luther Jackson and lived in Romney, West Virginia 5. Valley Fogle who married Amos Shipe and lived in Edith, Virginia 6. Belzora Fogle who married James Callan and lived in Edith, Virginia 7. Mary "Mollie" Fogle who married William Jenkins --------------------------- THEN Mary Fogle, daughter of Samuel Fogle married to Williams Jenkins left the following Heirs 1. Laura Jenkins who married Joseph Edmunds and lived in Woodstock 2. Green Fogle who married Unknown and lived in Maurertown 3. Dimp Jenkins and Mary Jenkins who were Infants under age 14 years ------------------------- This was a wonderful Chancery Record! ------------------- Then to go along with this chancery suit is the following articles that I pulled from old Shenandoah Herald's.
