Boschong Subscribers, I found this very interesting article from The Commercial News of Danville, Illinois, written by Roy J. Kyger in 1951. One of the Kyger daughters, Luella married Charles T. Bushong. See BOSCHONG Archives for October 2009, July 2011 and April 2013 for further information. I could not find this couple in the 1900 or 1930 census and I spent a lot of time looking. I called the library in Danville, Illinois and ordered their obits but according to the librarian, it will take 4 to 6 weeks to receive them. Seems like a awfully long time since I did furnish them with the exact death dates but she did say they were short handed so we wait. ------------------ The Commercial News Danville, Illinois Sunday, 25 November 1951 RECOLLECTIONS: KYGER'S MILL GONE BUT NOT FORGOTTEN By R. J. Kyger Few and obscure are the landmarks today of pioneer days when settlers flooded into the rolling hills of the Midwest. One of the familiar sights in this area a century ago was Kyger's Mill near Grape Creek on the Vermillion River, six miles southwest of Danville, then a village of only a few hundred. Amid scenic beauty, the three-story frame building housed a huge grist mill that ground wheat and corn night and day. Through a small structure adjacent to it passed thousands of logs to be sawed into rough lumber. The first mill was built on the site by William Sheets and Thomas Morgan of Georgetown in 1835. When Henry T. Kyger purchased the mill in 1850, he enlarged the building, installed new machinery and formed a partnership with the two brothers, Daniel and Tilmon Kyger. The original Kyger family was Henry T. Kyger and wife, their five daughters and two sons. Of these, two sons and a daughter survive: MRS. CHARLES T. BUSHONG, 602 Buchanan Street, R. J. Kyger, 316 Chandler and Willet T. Kyger, of Pocahontas, Arkansas. Power to run the grinding burrs and sawmill was furnished by two turbine shells driven by water impounded in a large fore-bay or mill race. Water was forced into it by a dam built across the river at an angle to the mill. Both corn and wheat were ground by stone burrs. Lumber was cut by a "gate-saw" fitted into a huge frame about eight feet high and six feet wide. The sawmill turned out about two thousand feet of lumber a day, considered good in those days. The price was 50 cents per hundred feet, or a share. Other buildings used in the milling business included a mill barn to house the horses and oxen, a cooperage for making barrels to ship flour, a wheat granery and barracks for mill hands. Henry Kyger sold the mill after operating it more than 30 years, but it continued to be used until the turn of the century when the structure weakened by age, fell of its own weight into the river. Only memories of its existence remain. ------------------- CHARLES THOMPSON BUSHONG Born: 1 June 1875, Vermilion County, Illinois, s/o Andrew Moore Bushong and Elizabeth Ross Died: 27 November 1951, Vermilion County, Illinois Married: 24 June 1897, Vermilion County, Illinois, to Luella Kyger LUELLA KYGER Born: 18 September 1875, Vermilion County, Illinois, d/o Henry Thornton Kyger and Electra Ann Redfern Died: 14 December 1956, Vermilion County, Illinois Both Burial: Springfield Cemetery, Vermilion County, Illinois ------------------ 1880 Federal Census: Illinois Georgetown, Ed 214, Vermilion County Enumerated 17 June 1880 Page 444C Lines 5-12, HH 324/340 Andrew Bushong W/M/30/Married/Farmer/PA/PA/Ireland Elizabeth Bushong W/F/27/Wife/KeepsHouse/IL/KY/IL Margaret A. Good Beautiful Afternoon Boschong Subscribers, There is much to be learned from the past two years. The Bushong family is NOT a perfect family, including myself. Rest assure no one is going to drive me out of genealogy and I will continue to research, post my research, and support the Bushong family, no matter what. Sure, there have been a few mistakes made in my research, but there has been so much MORE that was RIGHT and NEW. We should embrace that. Whose research has been totally perfect? In the overall scheme of things, the few mistakes I made should NEVER have been taken and blown out of proportion, as it has been for the last two years by one man. Truthfully, only DNA would and did answer the question. Nothing more should be discussed about this. MISTAKES ARE PROOF THAT YOU ARE TRYING. None of us can stop the harassment, criticism and the twisting of words by those few dissidents who still continually try to discredit. Only they can do that and they have turned it into a game for entertainment. One can only ignore it, endure it, learn from it and be stronger in the research. Don't be fooled or hung up by the word Blood vs Adoption, when I am speaking of the DNA results, as they are just words to describe the reality of the situation in a report and just meant for clarification. Unfortunately all this abuse has caused some reputable researchers to discontinue their Bushong genealogy and I can't really blame them. To those who have tried to discredited the wives of Bushongs, me included, as not being Bushongs, and the adopted children, as not being Bushongs, that is wrong. I do appreciate the one guy who did apologize for this slight. These wives and children are acknowledged by law to be Bushongs so as a united family, all should embrace these people as true Bushongs including those that do not test to be Bushongs by DNA since they are legally Bushong. However, when you do your charts and trees, and GPS would require, and in reality, you must be HONEST and state somewhere at the beginning of your tree that your family was adopted into the Bushong family once you know this and show where that happened in the tree. If you know the surname that you were originally, you should include that in your genealogical chart. I want to apologize publicly to all List and researchers for any part I have played in dividing this family. I do not send e-mails out to other researchers, trying to discredit another. What you see here is all I have to say and I am very open about it. I hope others will find it in their hearts to do a public apology as they ARE equally guilty. DO THESE THINGS: 1. Grow up 2. Post only positive messages to the various Lists. 3. Ignore and do not respond to the negative poisonous campaign of e-mails being sent behind the scenes to Bushong family members about me every time I post and others and the negative posts to other Lists. Just remember there are only a few of these dissidents and they are the ones hurting the Bushong research community. 4. Let us ALL, Forgive, Forget, and move on with researching this very interesting and diverse Bushong family. The Bushong Family Reunion will be next year at New Market, Virginia at the Battlefield. The dates are 3, 4 and 5 October 2014. Why not come and meet me and the Bushong family members! FYI: None of these dissidents have ever attended a Bushong Reunion and do you really want them to affect the wonderful Bushong Reunion in the future? Blessings! Gloria Neiger Bushong

Good Afternoon Boschong Subscribers, I hope everyone is enjoying their day. I received the following questionnaire a few days ago from someone who did not participate in the Bushong DNA project and has been a constant critic. -------------------------------- Mrs. Bushong, As the administrator of the Bushong DNA Project, I'm sure you're aware that there are many questions that the Bushong research community has about the project. Can you take a moment and address these few questions for those interested? MY ANSWER: Sure I will. It is so nice that the Bushong research community is so interested in this little ole project. Some have a funny way of showing it though. :) ----------------------------------- QUESTION 1. First, can you please tell us how many Bushong/Bushon named members are there in the project? Are results available for all of them? MY ANSWER: Silly question as that was answered on the 1st of May 2013 on the BOSCHONG and the BUSHONG Lists. Did you miss that? Check the Archives. Of course all can see results to THEIR matches on DNA on the familytreedna website by logging in with their password. That's already been explained on the 1st of May 2013. Did you miss that one too? Check the Archives. Anyone can call me and I will be more then happy to log in to the Administrative site and go over ALL of the results with them over the telephone including those that don't match them. My telephone number is easy to find on the Reunion website. ----------------------------------- QUESTION 2. For all that have been tested and are associated with the Bushong/Bushon Colonial immigrants, could you please list four generations (from the original immigrant)? MY ANSWER: Why my goodness, I cannot believe that you would ask me to do that since that is not following Genealogical Protocol Standards (GPS). You never start at the immigrant. Of the 13 men who have participated here are the their known ancestor: 1. Bosang descendant not a Bushong 2. John Bushong married to Elizabeth Sprinkle 3. William Alexander Bushong 4. Henry Bushong and Barbara Lohr 5. Andreas Bushong 6. Andreas Bushong 7. Andreas Bushong 8. Henry Bushong married to Barbara Lohr 9. Unknown Mitchell ancestor 10. Unknown Mitchell ancestor 11. Unknown Sisk ancestor 12. Andreas Bushong 13. Unidentified surname neither Bushong, Mitchell or Sisk ------------------------------------- QUESTION 3. The Canadian Bushong line that immigrated from Nova Scotia has been mentioned before, are they currently being tested? Is their family religion still Catholic or have they changed to Protestant as the original immigrants were? MY ANSWER: As of right now, no, as I have no way of contacting the Canadian people. I have Googled telephone books and searched but no spelling of the name comes up. If you have a way of contacting them and are so interested, why aren't YOU trying to contact them to tell them about the project instead of constantly berating me and presenting a stumbling block to the project? ------------------------------------- QUESTION 4. What about the Bushong/Bushon of African descent? Are there any potential candidates for DNA testing? How many have been contacted? MY ANSWER: I do not have powers to be able to distinguish the color of a person skin by their name. Do you? I even contacted Dr. Henry Gates but he was not interested in helping out. I contacted the Highland and Clinton County Ohio Genealogical Society in case someone walked in that might be a candidate and I sent my African American research to the Tennessee Archives. It might be noted that I am aware that the questioner knows someone who could be a potential candidate but that questioner refuses to be cooperative in giving me the contact and helping with this project, so there it is. Another stumbling block and hindrance to the project by his choice. I ask anyone out there with knowledge of an African American candidate, please contact me with details or contact them yourself, give them the information on the Bushong DNA project on how to participate. I would so appreciate it. Criticism gets us no where, only cooperation will be acceptable. --------------------------------------- QUESTION 5. Since the Bushong/Bushon name before being Anglicized was spelled Boschung, are they being located and has the well known Boschung family in Alabama been contacted? Are they going to be tested and is their family religion Protestant as the original immigrants were or Catholic? MY ANSWER: Well yes as a matter of fact I have contacted someone from Alabama who is willing and will take part next month. (June) Good grief. I did not ask their religious affiliation. Who cares about what religion they are. That is so totally irrelevant. DNA will tell the relationship if there is one, not the religion. ----------------------------------- QUESTION 6. Why doesn't the Bushong DNA Project have a website? Didn't you promise your daughter would make one? With the free web space provided, by FTDNA, wouldn't that be a good way to attract new project members, as well as post new findings? MY ANSWER: We don't need a public website that every Tom, Dick, and Harry can look at and there is already one set up in the project to view results for those participants. We have the Boschong and Bushong Lists to give the Bushong research community any results. My daughter is too busy to be involved. She created the Bushong Reunion website back in 2004 and I pay the fees every year to maintain that website. As far as I know the questioner is the only one insisting on a public website, for what purpose and motivation, I do not know, and it must be pointed out once again that this questioner isn't even a DNA participant so he has no say! The consensus of the actual participants is that it will not be made public and I will abide by those wishes. Constant criticism, bullying and harassment will not change that. Enough is enough. It is hindering the project and research. As far as the anonymity issue with the Mitchell DNA, I would like to point out that it was NOT me who made it public. It was first announced on this BOSCHONG List back in November 2012 when my computer wasn't even up and running and I was not posting. I was off of the Internet for 5 months. A descendant of James Bushong and Drusilla Stout was tested and his DNA did not match the Bushong DNA. The sister of the participant, announced on this List in November this information and I was as shocked as everyone else since number one, I did not know that her brother was even being tested, and when those results were released only though the List, did I find out about this. I did post in January 2013 about the need to have further testing on the Ohio Bushongs. So I want to hear no more of this nonsense about me being the one that "blew the whistle" and ruined the anonymity of the descendants of James Bushong and Drusilla Stout. And as far as the Mitchell DNA website and the two Bushongs who test Mitchell DNA and show up on that Mitchell site, the lab in Houston put them in that project, not me. --------------------------------------- QUESTION 7. Mrs. Bushong, when FTDNA recommends more than one administrator, how can you justify not having others and wouldn't you think it's important to have at least one administrator born a Bushong? MY ANSWER: Why yes, of course, it is important and I have always felt that there needed to be someone else working with me and it would have been nice to have someone all along with the same mind-set but up until this point, NO ONE had ever contacted me to volunteer as a co-administrator. :) If you recall, no one even stepped forth to be Administrator yet alone a co-administrator! BIG ANNOUNCEMENT I actually had been working behind the scenes for sometime finding a co-administrator. I can now announce publicly that I have TWO co-administrators. They are not volunteers, I actively recruited them. These two are blood Bushongs. One is in their 30s, has a marketing degree, and is a direct descendant of Jacob Bushong and Sarah Strickler. The other one is a direct descendant of John Bushong and Elizabeth Sprinkle and is quite knowledgeable about the DNA. I am considering asking one other person, but if I do, that will come much later. --------------------------------------- QUESTION 8. You've cited privacy for excluding the Bushong research community from the project and its original data, but with numerous experts all agreeing, aside from genealogical data, a 37 or even a 67 marker DNA analysis reveals nothing about an individual, how can privacy still be a legitimate concern? MY ANSWER: The Bushong research community has direct access to me all the time as I have said above and anyone who wants more information can call me directly and I will be more then happy to discuss the results with them. The decision of the actual participants is to remain private with only a password to gain access to the Project and that is the way it will remain. The questioner is NOT a participant, and is working under false pretenses, thus has no say. Have you ever considered that in this day and age it is so easy for someone to hack into a website and steal information? If you have the kit numbers, then you can get the names of those people who supplied the DNA. We are protecting our participants whether you like it or not. ------------------------------- Gloria Neiger Bushong Administrator of the Bushong DNA Project
Jason, Thank you for supplying the name McDonald as I did not know what her name was when she married Duncan McArthur. According to some records I have seen, Duncan McDonald married Nancy McDonald 20 February 1797. Now the big question is, was McDonald her maiden name? Since this Deed was for 1821 and these people were all fairly old by this time, (IF this Duncan McArthur did serve with John), how many times might Nancy have been married? Just asking with no malice intent. :) Gloria
Interesting since none of his records reflect George. Gloria, I called my cousin Eldon Loftis, whose mother is Hermal D. (Bushong) Loftis, daughter of Marion (Andy) Bushong and Nancy (North) Bushong.
