The William C. Bull, I believe is somehow related to Henry Buhl of New Market, Virginia. The name has been spelled both way, Bull and Buhl in old records. Henry inherited Mattie Bushong Good's farm land and home. Because of yesterday's storm, his phone is out of order, so I haven't been able to contact him to ask him how related. Will do so later. ---------------------- Rockingham County Virginia Chancery Suit 1899-007 Samuel H. Moyer et al VS William C. Bull et al Image 30 & 31 of 45 Pages Deposition taken 8 October 1896. JACOB J. BUSHONG another witness introduced in the same behalf being first duly sworn deposes and says: QUESTION: State your age, residence and occupation. ANSWER BY JACOB J. BUSHONG: 28, Hupp, Virginia, and am a farmer QUESTION: Are you acquainted with the 28 acre tract sold by the adult heirs of Moyers to Jacob Crist at the price of $1575.00, one third cash, and the balance in two equal annual payments with interest from date, and the tract of 3 acres more or less sold William C. Bull by the same parties both of said sales having been made last June (1896) and if so how long have you known them, and how close to these places do you live? ANSWER BY JACOB J. BUSHONG: Yes sir, I am acquainted with them, and have known them for five or six years. I live about two miles from them. QUESTION: Jacob Crist paid $1575.00 for his place and Bull paid $65.00 for the place that he bought. Do you consider these prices fair and adequate for the land sold? ANSWER BY JACOB J. BUSHONG: Yes sir. I think they are good prices. QUESTION: Were the two tracts of land mentioned in this cause susceptible of partition among the Heirs? ANSWER BY JACOB J. BUSHONG: I don't think they could have been. QUESTION: Do you think it to the advantage of all parties in interest to have these two sales confirmed, and then have the proceeds divided amongst these entitled thereto? ANSWER BY JACOB J. BUSHONG: Yes sir. QUESTION: Then according to your answers you believe the interests of the infant heirs would be advanced by the sale and that they ought to be confirmed? ANSWER BY JACOB J. BUSHONG: I think so. And further deponent sayeth not. JACOB J. BUSHONG Virginia, Rockingham County, To Wit: I, A. U. Lewis, a Notary Public in and for the County aforesaid in the State of Virginia, do Certify that the foregoing depositions of Samuel J. Holsinger and Jacob J. Boschong Subscribers, As you all know, my photos on Webshots, that were linked to the Bushong Reunion website, www.bushongreunion, are no longer available because Webshots sold their site and took the photos down. It was very disappointing since those albums were very popular among the family members. I am contemplating two things. Putting them up on Flickr or creating a group Facebook page which would be made Private and you would have to request being a Friend to be accepted. Each has it advantages and disadvantages. For me it would be easier to do Facebook since then everyone could post their photos, view them and also share them with other family members. Flickr is very popular but not as accessible and after my experience with Webshots and what they did, the same could happen with Flickr. So give me your thoughts. You can do it publicly or privately. Thanks, Gloria

Boschong Subscribers, Earlier this month I posted a 1920 census record for a Harold Bushong age 21 who supposedly was serving time in the penitentiary in Cole County, Missouri. Since this post was about Noel's grandfather, he contacted me for help in getting more information about this guy in prison since he didn't think this was his grandfather and neither did I. I told him how to go about contacting the proper officials to get more information. Well, I am so glad he did because this census record is totally incorrect. According to the prison records the guy who was serving time was not Harold Bushong. The guy serving time was Harry Bushong, he was 40 years of age and he served 2 years of grand larceny on a charge from Marion County, Missouri. He served from: 4 March 1919 to 6 August 1920 ------------------ Here is the correspondence: June 12, 2013 MKS Dear Mr. Bushong, We found one entry for someone named BUSHONG in the Missouri State Penitentiary in 1920. Harry BUSHONG, #21510, pled guilty to grand larceny in Marion County and was sentenced to 2 years. He entered the penitentiary on 3-4-1919 and was released under commutation 8-6-1920. His age is different than the man listed in the census, 40 years old as opposed to 21. No wife or other family members are listed. To order a copy of his penitentiary record please send a check or money order (no cash) to the Missouri State Archives at the address below. Good Afternoon Boschong Subscribers, I found this Chancery Suit in Rockingham County. Although it is not for a Bushong, several Bushong's names are mentioned. It is always good to read these suits since it places a person in a particular place at a particular time. George M. Bowman died 22 April 1861 and David Bowman was appointed Administrator of his Estate which was large for that time frame, an estate valued at approximately $14,000. I believe David Bowman was probably a brother or uncle of George M. Bowman. This suit went on for some years and was finally settled in 1880. As far as I can interpret, the widow Sarah V. Bowman sued David Bowman, her husband's administrator, over the handling of the money invested in Confederate bonds, but there was probably more to it then just that. --------------------- On 8th October 1861, the personal estate of George M. Bowman, deceased, was held in Rockingham County. Because of those present, I'm pretty sure that this homestead was in the Plains area between Timberville and New Market. Jesse Bushong bought 1 red cow for #15.00 1/2 Peter Bushong bought 13 1/2 pounds of Tallow at 10 1/2 cents a pound for a total of $1.41 1/2. Note: Tallow was used for several purposes. To make candles, for medicinal purposes and to lubricate equipment. ----------------------- 1860 Federal Census: Virginia District No. 1, PO Harrisonburg, Rockingham County Enumerated 7 September 1860 Page 712 Line 12-14, HH 2706/2651 Jesse Bushong 35/Male/Farmer/ValueRE$3120/ValuePE$573/VA Elizabeth Bushong 26/Female/CannotReadOrWrite/VA John Good 14/Male/AttendedSchool/VA AND 1860 Federal Census: Virginia New Market Townhip, Shenandoah County Enumerated 9 August 1860 Page 720 Lines 5-11, HH 875/875 Peter Bushong 37/Male/Farmer/$1098-$690/VA Susan Bushong 25/Female/VA Perry Bushong 4/Male/VA Emily Bushong 1/Female/VA Mary Bushong 67/Female/CannotReadOrWrite/VA {Mother of Peter and Jesse} Jesse Bushong 34/Male/Farmer/MarriedWithinTheYear/VA {brother of Peter} Elizabeth Bushong 25/Female/VA {Wife of Jesse} ---------------------- This is disappointing because usually when one was deposed back in this area they asked the age of the person. However this Counsellor did not. If he had, it would have cleared up all those questions from back in the BOSCHONG Archives for December 2007 post with the Peter Bushong deposition of 1848 with mention of son who we still have not been able to identify. PART 2 of 2 ----------------- Rockingham County Chancery Suit Samuel Swank, Plaintiff VS Isaac A. Bushong et al, Defendants 19th March 1866 The separate answer of Isaac A. Bushong and Sarah his wife to a Bill of Complaint exhibited in the County Court of Rockingham County by Samuel Swank against these Respondents and others. The Respondent saving and reserving for themselves all just and proper exceptions. The Complainant's Bill in response thereto answer and say: They admit the death of Joseph Swank, the death date year and Probate of his Will, the qualification of the Guardian of the infant children and the assignment of the widow's Dower. Respondent deny the complete purchase of the interest of Complainant's brother of one ninth and charge and offput that the contract has been set aside. Respondent object to the partition of the Land, the share of Respondents would be about 20 acres and after the death of the Widow about nine acres in the Dower land. The Lots would be so small that they would be of little value and cannot be partitioned so as to do justice to all the devisees. Respondents think that although Complainant has control over the interests of his Wards, that he is not consulting their interests in asking for a partition of their Lands. Respondents further charge that a question arises under the Will whether the children of Respondents are not invested and if so ought they not be made parties to this suit and whether the charges for the support of the children that are infants are not a charge upon the land and if partition is made of the lands have they charge is to be made. Respondents having fully answered deny all charges and combination and pray to be hence dismissed with other costs. Rockingham County to wit: The affidavit sworn to by Isaac A. It appears by this Will that after the provision for the widow, the balance of the testates real and personal estate was to be equally divided among his children: Complainant further sheweth that the daughter Ann Eliza has attained the age of twenty one and one third of the real estate has been duly assigned to the widow by commissioners appointed by the Court, which leaves about 200 acres, in the joint occupancy and possession of the testates children. Complainant further sheweth that in September 1865 he contracted in writing with his brother Joseph Harvey for the purchase of his undivided share of one ninth (there being nine children) but has received no deed. The Complainant is therefore owner of two undivided ninths and at the February Term of the Court of Rockingham in 1862, Complainant qualified as Guardian of the two youngest children, one of the number being now about 17 and the other very near 14 years of age; By virtue of his appointment as Guardian, the complainant has control of two other shares of one nineth each. Boschong Subscribers, Back in February 2011 I posted about John Brown and his two wives one of which was Elizabeth Bushong. I found the Pension application which gives us a little more information about him and his second wife. There is a small descrepency for the maiden name of second wife Catharine. Their marriage bond stated her maiden name as Cramer and when one of her daughters married Thomas Hanson it also stated the maiden name as Cramer. BUT her pension application as a widow states her maiden name as Cremore. So the big question is: Was she married before she married John Brown to a Cramer or is this just a memory loss at her age of application or the way she pronounced Cramer sounded like Cremore. I tend to believe her maiden name was Cramer. Rockingham County Virginia Chancery Settled 1855 -002 Original Case #15 Israel May Guardians VS Isaac May et al This case involved the Heirs of Isaac May, deceased before 1850 and his wife Mary deceased to decide whether it was in the best interest of their infant children to sell their interest in their mother's Dower rights or keep the land. Those involved were: BUSHONG CAMPBELL CRIST KIPPS MAY WHITE ------------------ DEPOSITION OF PETER BUSHONG 10 September 1850 New Market, Shenandoah County, Virginia By consent of all parties being present and the Guardian ad litem of Isaac May and Leana May, infant children and heirs of Isaac May, deceased, being present also the following depositions were taken on the 10th day of September 1850 at the office of Louis G. PETER BUSHONG, A witness of lawful age and first duly sworn deposeth and saith: QUESTION BY PLAINTIFF: Are you acquainted with the thirty acres of Dower lands of which Mary May died possessed as of Dower? ANSWER BY PETER BUSHONG: Yes Sir. QUESTION BY PLAINTIFF: Do you believe it would be to the interest of Isaac May and Leana May infant children of Isaac May deceased, to have their interest in said Dower land sold? ANSWER BY PETER BUSHONG: Yes Sir. I believe it would. QUESTION BY PLAINTIFF: Would it sell better separately or in conjunction with the other Heirs interest in said Dower? ANSWER BY PETER BUSHONG: I think it would sell best altogether. QUESTION BY PLAINTIFF: Do you think if it was not sold but divided that the several rent of each of the infant's interest would be equal to the interest upon the money if sold? ANSWER BY PETER BUSHONG: No Sir. It would not. QUESTION BY PLAINTIFF: Taking everything into consideration the price of land, the anticipated railroad, do you or do you not think that their interest would be any greatly promoted by a sale of their interests in their mother's Dower and would the Dower land now command a good price in market? ANSWER BY PETER BUSHONG: I think their interest would be greatly promoted by a sale of their interest in the Dower and I think the Land would now command a good price at market as Land is now selling very well. And further this deposeth saith not. PETER BUSHONG, His X Mark ------------------ Researched, Transcribed and Submitted by Gloria Neiger Bushong

Good Evening Boschong Subscribers, I received this communication from Noel this afternoon. Thanks so much to Noel for sharing this obit with the List. Since the obits were clipped by one of his family members and they did not make a notation of the newspaper or date, but we can say that this was in all likelyhood in the Mountain Grove News - Journal after the services were conducted on 15th April. ------------------ Gloria, There seems to be two Linda Lee Bushong's, one is wife of Marvin Eldo Bushong of Joshua Tree, California. The other Linda Lee Bushong was born 14 November 1939 at Noble, Missouri and departed this life 10 April 1955 at St. John's Hospital in Springfield, Missouri. Her parents are Harold H. and Stella Bushong. A great Obituary was written about her. It starts out as : ---------------------- Probably Mountain Grove News - Journal Mountain Grove, Missouri April 1955 OBITUARY LINDA LEE BUSHONG An unusually large crowd of friends, classmates, teachers and relatives filled the Church of Christ to overflowing in final tribute to Linda Lee Bushong, age 15, a sophomore in the Mountain Grove High School, who passed away 10th April in St. John's Hospital, Springfield. The funeral service held at 2 o'clock Thursday afternoon, 14 April, was conducted by Evang. Cliff Stewart, and hymns of comfort were sung by a quartette composed of Homer Rinnaker, Verna and Ruby Gardner and G. O. Branson. A group of ten flower girls all schoolmates of Linda, formed an honorary escort. Those serving were Sue Naugle, Glora Dean Walker, Barbara Hicks, Barbara Clark, Bonnie Koontz, Beverley Turner, Alice Fay Oxley, Ytoka Todd, Phyllis Knight and Carol Sue Burney. Pallbearers were Bernal Welch, Vernal Welch, Melvin Oxley, Jimmie Oxley, Aubie Ray Naugle and Roy Murr, all cousins of Linda Lee. Concluding services were held in Stubbs Cemetery under direction of the Grable - Windle Funeral Home. ----------- Linda Lee Bushong was born 14 November 1939 at Noble, Missouri and departed this life 10 April 1955 at St. John's Hospital in Springfield. She moved with her parents to Mountain Grove in 1953 where she attended School and gained a host of schoolmates and friends. She is survived by her father and mother, Mr. and Mrs. Harold Bushong, two brothers Joe Andy of the Air Force stationed in Wyoming and Eucle of the home; three half-brothers, Rudolph Bushong of New York and Vernon Lawson of Marshall, Missouri, and Doyle Bushong of Hermiston, Oregon; two half-sisters, Golda Hurst, Bradleyville, Missouri, and Dohna Mahan of Hobbs, New Mexico; her grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. Marion Bushong of Mountain Grove; eleven nephews, six nieces, and a host of uncles, aunts, and cousins. Linda was always a cheerful girl, wanting to help others. She was baptized into the Church of Christ in the Fall of 1953 and among her last words were "I'm in Sunday School." -------------------- Sent to me by Noel Eugene Bushong and Submitted by Gloria Neiger Bushong (From Noel: "Linda Lee Bushong was my Aunt and I was told she was very beautiful with a personality to go with that beauty.")
