Boschong Subscribers, We were contact by Leanne Collis on the 13th of this month about some photos in an antique shop out in Eugene, Oregon. I wrote back and told her that I would be interested in receiving the pictures so that I could scan them to our Ancestor's Photo Album with the idea that I would then send them to Jackie who is a direct descendant. I haven't heard from her since. Did anyone else receive this message? If so and you are getting the photos, I would certainly appreciate it, if you would scan a copy of John and Melissa and family to me when you receive them, so that I can add them to the Album. There are probably other relatives that would like to see them too. I don't know how Myrta and William Sams fit in to this family. Any ideas? Possibly grandchildren? See BOSCHONG Archives for September 2006, November 2007, April 2010, and May 2010. Thanks, Gloria ----------------------------- Here is the message she sent me and posted to the Bushong Forum: Hi! I have been getting into my own genealogy lately, so when I was at an antique store today and I saw some photos marked with names and I felt it was a shame that they had become separated from their family. There are 4 photos altogether: One of John and Malissa Hogmire Bushong, one of Malissa and two children (Myrta adn William Sams), two of John, Senior. I did not buy them as they were $4 each, but I wrote down the names to see if I could locate the family. If you respond to this message, and would like the photos, I will go to the shop and get them for you! I know how happy I would be to find photos of my relatives. Just let me know; I would love to pay it forward :) Leanne in Oregon
Good Morning Boschong Subscribers, We have begun to put up the photos for the Bushong Reunion 2010. We still have to title some of them and we will be adding more pictures within the next few days. We have also added some to the Tombstone Album. Enjoy. Gloria Bushong
Good Morning Boschong Subscribers, This came through the Sprinkle List and I am passing the information along since it relates to this List too. Canadian drug company. There is a Canadian drug company that has infiltrated almost everyone's e-mail account. If someone has not received one they will surely get one in the future. When you get an e-mail from a friend or known source and it does not have a subject line, just delete it and immediately empty your Trash. After a while they just stop coming. Somehow it has attached itself to the Rootsweb contact lists. Each will know when they get one because it will usually be an e-mail from a friend or known source such as the Bushong Rootweb site. It may or may not have a subject line. The message in the body of the e-mail will be short words like "Hi" or "Check this out" etc. The body of the message will always have a link to click on. DO NOT CLICK ON THE LINK. The virus really does not hurt your data but it is a nuisance. Most who have it don't know that their e-mail address and/or e-mail contact list is being used by these Canadian drug companies. Because it has attached itself to a person in your contact list many virus programs will not catch it. Suggest that if anyone gets one of these drug company e-mails that they let the person whose mail box was used that they have it. They can then contact their e-mail provider. I have received some of these and sometimes the filter catches them and some are not filtered and go straight to your mail box without my approval. Know that when I send out a post, there is always a subject related to a Bushong in someway. Gloria Bushong List Administrator
Boschong Subscribers, Well, after posting the question about the chancery case between John Bushong and William Fowler, we suddenly realized that Kellie A. Summers, second wife of William Franklin Bushong was related to the Fowlers through her mother. It gets more interesting by the minute. See post for February 2005 and September 2009. Kellie A. Summers daughter of Jacob Summers and Jemina Fowler was born 6 January 1862 near Lacey Springs, Rockingham County, Virginia. She was the second wife of William Franklin Bushong, son of Anderson Bushong and his first wife Elizabeth Swatz/Swartz. William Franklin Bushong married Kellie A. Summers on the 24 April 1901. He died 4 March 1904 so it was up to Kellie to take care of his two daughters from his first marriage, Sally and Lizzie and eke out a living as a widow. Kellie is mentioned many, many times in the diaries of Mattie Bushong Good as Kellie and the girls were very close to she and Evla. -------------------------- The Shenandoah Valley Herald Woodstock, Virginia April 1942 MRS. Gloria, Two Anna's ?? Herb -----Original Message----- From: [email protected] To: [email protected] Sent: Fri, Oct 8, 2010 5:54 pm Subject: [BOSCHONG] Tombstones for Jacob and Anna Roof, New Market, Virginia Boschong Subscribers, Hoping this will help someone. While in New Market this week, Henry Buhl and I went out to the Roof amily Cemetery on Cedar Lane where Smith Creek flows across, on the roperty of ark Anderson who graciously allowed us to come on to his property to see he cemetery. It is a stones throw from Henry Buhl's old home place. here re only a few tombstones left and only two readable. I looked on the henandoah Gen Web site to see if any of the tombstones were recorded and wo ere, neither of which was Jacob Roof's wife Anna. His wife Anna Roof's ombstone was found by Mr. Anderson, further down the bank, broken in two nd uried. Mr. Anderson has it in his garage as it would not survive at this oint in time in the elements. Mr. Anderson did some research and stated hat he Roof family, after the deaths of the parents, moved to Rockingham ounty. We think that these Roof's came down from York County, Pennsylvania and robably knew the Bushong family well. I believe they married in to the ess, Kagy and Rush families as did the Bushongs marry Hess and Rush amilies. agy's played a roll in the Bushong family too although we have yet to ind marriage. We transcribed the two readable tombstones and here they are: In Memory of Jacob Roof eparted This Life 3 March 1814 ged 64 years {Born 1750} In Commemoration of nna Roof ho was born in the year 1762 June the 25 eparted This Life September The 23 1820 ged 58 years 9 months 28 days There were several fieldstones which were unreadable, several of which ere robably children. The readable one recorded in the cemetery book was: Henrich Ruff ied November 1795 Note: The cemetery book states the location of this cemetery as Mt. ackson ut this is a little deceiving as it is not in Mt. Jackson. It is so close o New Market, we are not sure why they state Mt. Jackson in the book ---------- e found this entry in the Shenandoah County Virginia Order Book 14 October 1823 illiam Hess is appointed guardian to his children: namely John, Martin, nna, Anna, Samuel, Elizabeth and William Hess, grandchildren of Anna oof. --------- esearched and Submitted by Gloria Bushong ------------------------------ o unsubscribe from the list, please send an email to [email protected] ith the word 'unsubscribe' without the quotes in the subject and the body of he message
Boschong Subscribers, We borrowed several of Harry Long's books while in New Market and came across the following entry in the Order Book for 1781 - 1784, transcribed by Amelia C. Gilreath. Boschong Subscribers, Hoping this will help someone. While in New Market this week, Henry Buhl and I went out to the Roof Family Cemetery on Cedar Lane where Smith Creek flows across, on the property of Mark Anderson who graciously allowed us to come on to his property to see the cemetery. It is a stones throw from Henry Buhl's old home place. There are only a few tombstones left and only two readable. I looked on the Shenandoah Gen Web site to see if any of the tombstones were recorded and two were, neither of which was Jacob Roof's wife Anna. His wife Anna Roof's tombstone was found by Mr. Anderson, further down the bank, broken in two and buried. Mr. Anderson has it in his garage as it would not survive at this point in time in the elements. Mr. Anderson did some research and stated that the Roof family, after the deaths of the parents, moved to Rockingham County. We think that these Roof's came down from York County, Pennsylvania and probably knew the Bushong family well. I believe they married in to the Hess, Kagy and Rush families as did the Bushongs marry Hess and Rush families. Kagy's played a roll in the Bushong family too although we have yet to find a marriage. We transcribed the two readable tombstones and here they are: In Memory of Jacob Roof Departed This Life 13 March 1814 Aged 64 years {Born 1750} In Commemoration of Anna Roof Who was born in the year 1762 June the 25 Departed This Life September The 23 1820 Aged 58 years 9 months 28 days There were several fieldstones which were unreadable, several of which were probably children. The readable one recorded in the cemetery book was: Henrich Ruff Died November 1795 Note: The cemetery book states the location of this cemetery as Mt. Jackson but this is a little deceiving as it is not in Mt. Jackson. It is so close to New Market, we are not sure why they state Mt. Jackson in the book ----------- We found this entry in the Shenandoah County Virginia Order Book 14 October 1823 William Hess is appointed guardian to his children: namely John, Martin, Anna, Anna, Samuel, Elizabeth and William Hess, grandchildren of Anna Roof. ---------- Researched and Submitted by Gloria Bushong
