    2. Gloria Thank you for the clarification. Isaac remarried to Sara Mort and had at least 7 additional children. I was not sure how they had migrated into MD and you helped o clear that up. My grandmother was a daughter of Thomas Jackson (Jackson in the census) I do not have a date for the marriage of Isaac and Sara. The Shennandoah County Men in Gray gives a breakdown. I also have a poor quality photo copy of Isaac's obituary. It lists him as dying in Clearbrook, VA with his body taken to Toms Brook for interment. 1. Re: [BOSCHONG] Exploring the ship registry of the TWO BROTHERS - 1753
    2. Somebody out there has the answer...sure hope they step forward!!!! In a message dated 2/3/2011 9:56:26 A.M. Pacific Standard Time, [email protected] writes: Good Afternoon Boschong Subscribers, I would like to know your thoughts on the following information. Playing Devil's Advocate and forgetting everything that has been put together by researchers in the past and keeping an open mind consider the following and tell me your thoughts. I have been pondering the names on the Passenger List of the ship TWO BROTHERS that arrived in the Port of Philadelphia in 1753. Back in January 2005 we wondered if David Bosang came here because of the death of a brother with a daughter named Elizabeth. Remember that? Thinking about the various stories that have come forth about the Bushong family, particularly those descendants who lived in Virginia, one story states that two brothers came to this country prior to the American Revolution and made their way to Virginia. We think instead of there being two brothers, it might be that the story, through the years of oral telling, was mixed up a bit, and that was the name of the ship and the brothers that came to Virginia were the three brothers listed below. Knowing that Bushongs were notorious for using more then one name in their lifetime, consider this: Let's explore the names of the three who came on that ship TWO BROTHERS in 1753 a year before the notation in the Minute Book of Augusta County about Elizabeth Bushon which takes on a lot more significance now.(See BOSCHONG Archives for January 2005) CHRONICLES OF THE SCOTCH IRISH SETTLEMENT IN VIRGINIA.......COURT RECORDS OF AUGUSTA COUNTY, VIRGINIA 1745-1800 By Lynn Chalkley, 1912, in 3 volumes: Volume I, page 51, taken from the Augusta County Court Order Book "21 May 1752: Elizabeth Bushon, an orphan, bound to Ro. McClenachan" ------------------------- TWO BROTHERS SHIP REGISTRY - 1753 Were they three men on the ship the following Bushongs? Theobald Devault Bushong (He became David Bosang of Staunton, VA) Mattheis Bushong (Was his full name Peter Mattheis Bushong?) William Bushong (Was his full name Henry William Bushong?) Was David Bosang the father of Henry and Peter or was he their Uncle? We know that Henry and Peter Bushong bought property side by side about the same time in Shenandoah County, VA (1792-1793) and I know I have said that I thought they were the sons of John Bushong of the 1831 Will in Lancaster County, PA. We need to figure out which relationship is correct. RELATIVES FOR SURE 1. David Bosang/Bushong born, Switzerland, died 1779, Virginia 2. Peter Mattheis Bushong born 1760, Switzerland, died 1826, Virginia 3. Henry William Bushong born 1763, Switzerland, died 1845 Indiana In one Indiana biography we read the following "Rev. John Alexander Bushong, who resides in Indianapolis, represents one of the old and honored pioneer families of Indiana. His father, Jonathan Bushong, was a son of Henry Bushong, who married a woman of French descent. Henry Bushong and his wife emigrated to America from Germany just prior to the War of the Revolution." NOTE: The statement prior to the Revolution is very telling since the American Revolution actually had it's beginnings in the 1760's but didn't come to a head until 1775.The word in Europe was that there was going to be a revolt in the colonies and many from Europe came to this country during this time frame either to join up with the English or the new Americans. That's what brought Von Steuben here. The ship TWO BROTHERS arrived here in 1753 which would have been prior to the Revolution! These Bushongs were of French/ Swiss descent but had come from a town Weylburg, that was part of the Alcase at the time of their departure as stated when Theobald Bossing (David Bosang/Bushong) married his second wife Barbara Suess in Lancaster County, PA This is the couple that went eventually to Staunton, Virginia. (Augusta County area). Lancaster, Lancaster County, Pennsylvania: Theobald Bossing, widower, from Burbach in Weylburg, married Maria Barbara Sussin (umlaut over the "U"), widow. Barbara was the widow of Heinrich Suss {Suess} Peter Bushong born 1760 reportily came from Huberhof, Zweibrucken, Switzerland. Wonder what the distance is between these two places? And to this another piece of information that one of the descendants of Henry Bushong, Elizabeth Howerton (a great great granddaughter of Henry)is in possession of Henry Bushong's Bible. I have seen this very large Bible and it is all in German and was published around 1750. Unfortunately it didn't have any genealogical information. ------------------ The more puzzle pieces we have to work with, the more the puzzle will come together. -------------------- TO BE CONTINUED: Researched and Submitted by Gloria Bushong -------------------- ------------------------------- To unsubscribe from the list, please send an email to [email protected] with the word 'unsubscribe' without the quotes in the subject and the body of the message

    1. [BOSCHONG] Exploring the ship registry of the TWO BROTHERS - 1753
    2. Good Afternoon Boschong Subscribers, I would like to know your thoughts on the following information. 2. Boschong Subscribers, To go right along with the previous post (BOSCHONG Archives February 2011) here is information on William David Stover, son of David Stover and Mary Ann Bushong. NOTE: We saw some information submitted to Rootsweb by a Paul ([email protected]_ (mailto:[email protected]) ) about William David Stover saying that William David Stover's parents were William Stover and Catharine Bushong. Please disregard that information as it is totally unreliable based on the research we have posted to the BOSCHONG List which we believe proves William David Stover to be the son of David Stover and Mary Ann Bushong of Augusta County, Virginia. 2. lol...yeah, their name has been "Bushwhacked"!!! In a message dated 2/2/2011 7:48:11 A.M. Some day we will see how all of the Bushong/Bosang families tie together as we find each puzzle piece and put them in their place. There will be at some point a big "ah ha" moment. Some time ago, we posted about Jacob Bushong, who married Catharine Cline of Augusta County, Virginia. Their daughter Mary Ann Bushong married William "David" Stover. Jacob Bushong was the son of Peter Bushong and Barbara Wenger. We posted Peter Bushong's Will to the List 3 March 2006. We came across this history of Grant County and thought it might be of interest since this is the same family and another piece of the big puzzle. He has a beautiful home, farm buildings which above the average of even Grant county and has a large acreage of regular farm crops and raises a number of high grade cattle and hogs and other live stock. His grandfather, WILLIAM DAVID STOVER, was born in Virginia, and of Virginia parentage, though of German ancestry. He married a Miss Bushyoung {MARY ANN BUSHONG}, born in Virginia, and of the same lineage as her husband. Before they came west, all of their five children were born. They are as follows: John and Catharine, both of whom married and had children and both now are deceased, Mary, who died in the spring of 1912 and left children; Samuel G.; David the youngest of the family who is now a farmer in Blackford county and has a family of five daughters. Samuel G. Stover, father of W. P. Stover, was born in Roanoke county, Virginia on Christmas day 1843. When he was seventeen years old his parents came to Indiana, and in 1861 settled in Henry county. Both his parents died in Henry county, his father when past eighty years of age and his mother some twenty years before. They were substantial farming people, and devout members of the united Brethren church. Samuel G. Stover after he became of age took up his independent career in Delaware county, where he met and married Miss M. Emma Shirey, who was born in this state. After four or five yeas on a Delaware county farm, they came in 1876 to Grant county and bought one hundred and sixty acres in section twenty-five of Jefferson township. Later their enterprise and careful management enabled them to increase their acreage by the purchase of eighty acres more, and there Samuel Stover labored and lived out the useful years of his existence until his death on 1 March 1912. He had his farm well improved and in every direction on the old homestead can still be seen the evidence of his thrift and diligence. His wife died on the same farm. 28 July 1909. She was born in Virginia in 1845, and when twelve years of age accompanied her parents to Delaware county. Mr. and Mrs. Samuel G. Stover were active in the Methodist Episcopal church, and he was a Republican in politics. Their children were: CORA who died at the age of six months; one that died in infancy; MARION who also died in infancy; FLORENCE, wife of William J. Williams, a farmer in Blackford county and they had two children Samuel M. and Robert Paul; PEARL who died 3 February 1910 at the age of 24, was unmarried and was a graduate of the University of Indiana at Bloomington; WILLIAM PAUL STOVER, the youngest of the children was born on the home farm in Jefferson township, 9 February 1890. Though only a few yeas past his majority he has already made a record of accomplishment such as many older men would envy. With the class of 1908 he graduated from the Upland high school and has since been attending strictly to business as a farmer. since coming into possession of the estate he has erected one of the finest barns in Jefferson township, a large and commodious structure of modern style as to sanitation and convenience, and built on ground dimensions of seventy by thirty-feet, with a cow barn sixteen by fifty feet. A comfortable old farm residence was erected by his father twenty-seven years ago, and still affords the comforts of a good home. Mr. Stover was married in Grant county in 1912 to Miss Nettie Roberds, who was born in Blackford county 1 Mary 1886, and was educated in the public schools. Her parents were Joseph A. and Anna Eliza (Wilson) Roberds. Anna Eliza Wilson was a daughter of Moses Wilson. The Roberds family live on a farm in Licking township of Blackford county and are prosperous and well to do people. Mr. and Mrs. Stover have no children and are popular among the younger members of Jefferson township in social circles. They attend the Pleasant Grove Methodist church. ------------------------ Researched and Submitted by Gloria Bushong ------------------------------- To unsubscribe from the list, please send an email to [email protected] with the word 'unsubscribe' without the quotes in the subject and the body of the message

    1. [BOSCHONG] Bible of John Bushong and Anna Stover - Ohio
    2. Good morning Boschong Subscribers, We looked back through old issues of the Bushong Bulletin and found the Bible record of John Bushong and Anna Stover. According to the Spring 2005 Bulletin, the Bible no longer exists but family pages of the Bible had been copied. We do not know whether these pages were photocopied or copied by hand as the Bulletin does not state that information. We also do not know the date that this Bible was published because that is not stated either, which for genealogical purposes is always important. Does anyone from this lineage actually have a copy of these pages? When examining an old Bible family history page for authenticity, you should look for the following: 1. The date the Bible was published. If the Bible is within a 50 year date range as the names that are noted in the Bible then it is probably authentic. That is why it is so important to see the front pages of any Bible for date of publication that is being used for genealogical purposes and photo copies made. DAR and SAR are very fussy about this. 2. Wording of entries. If the wording is modern then it is information that was added much later. Back in the early 1800's they made their entries very differently then we do today. 3. Are there different handwritings with the generations or is all handwriting the same for all entries? If there is different handwritings then it is probably authentic but if it is all one handwriting for every generation then beware. One more piece of information before I put the Bible record here. The spelling of the very early Bushong name in the old official records was never spelled the modern way. It was spelled Bosang, Buschong, Boushong and many other ways that men with accents would hear it pronounced and try to spell it. If you look back on the old Deeds that I posted to the List you will see what I am talking about. In the records of the Evangelical Lutheran Church in Carrollton, Carroll County, Ohio is the following entry along with the others which I will put at the end of this post to show you the spelling used for this couple in church records. Petrus born 26 Jly 1827, bapt 16 Sep 1827, parents Jacob Buschong & wife Elisabeth. Sponsors at the baptism were Johannes Buschong and wife Anna. -------------------------- Take note that to me, the last name spelling below sends up a red flag for the time frame of early 1800's since the spelling and wording are way too modern. This was the Bible of Johannes Buschong and wife Anna Stover and the spelling should match that spelling with baptismal records. The last three girls in this Bible entry, we believe was added later since the word borne in the other entries is spelled born in the last three. Also we find it a little peculiar that Sarah Bushong's entries were not completed. ------------------------- BIBLE RECORD OF JOHN BUSHONG AND ANNA STOVER John Bushong, A son of Jacob Bushong and Eve was born October the 22nd in the year 1784 {NOTE: We are leary of this entry because of the spelling of his first name as John instead of Johannes and the spelling of the word born which should be borne to match the birth of their children since the parents were supposedly making these entries.
