Boschong Subscribers, I am very angry but not sure at whom. Someone has removed my all of my research from the Archives concerning the George Bushong family of Grapevine, Tarrant County, Texas. As you well know I do my own research. I spend hours and sometimes day going through census records and cemeteries. I spent hours going through old newspapers on-line. I had put a bunch of obits and other newspapers articles that I personally found while subscribed to Newspaper Archives about that Texas Bushong family and they have been removed too. This is not right! That information is of public record and you know it is my research if it quotes the page and column for the article except in rare exceptions where the page number is not clear or I forget to write down the column. No one has a monopoly on any of the Bushong family history. Gloria Bushong
It shows on the Bushong page for me with no problem, just click "name index." I hope it expands to include the Shenandoah Valley Virginia line of Bushongs (my family). Great project. Good Evening Boschong Subscribers, I just got hung up the telephone after a nice conversation with Damon Hostetler who has created a website with Bushong family group sheets. He has just started but he is going to take the information that I put on this List and make sheets for the families to help you sort out each group. The new site is: bushong.pbworks.com When the site opens look for the Name Index and click on that. All of the group sheets will come up. Have fun. If anyone sees an error please let Damon or I know. Thanks to an alert subscriber, Cindy Lee, we now know a lot more about the ship BUSHONG. Great find! Thanks for posting. Unfortunately the post was rejected by Rootsweb because it was too long and was formatted for the List, so here is the abbreviated version with the information that Cindy Lee sent that concerns the ship in question. Cindy Lee found the information on a site that Tim Colton had created. G. M. Standifer Construction Company built two shipyards on the Columbia River for the WWI effort, one in North Portland for wooden ships and one in Vancouver for steel ships. The former was just west of the Interstate bridge, where the Inn on the Quay is today, and the latter was about a mile to the west, just downstream from the railroad bridge. Both yards were closed in 1921. There are some great old photographs. {on his site} There is some confusion, at least in my mind {Tim Colton} , as to which ships were built in which yard, because the known shipyard hull numbers and USSB hull numbers don't gibe. USBB# - 1121 Name of Ship - BUSHONG Type of Ship - Cargo Ship Owner of Ship - U. S. Shipping Board USBB Design - 1075 G. Tonage - 2848 Delivered - May 1919 Disposition - Scrapped 1924 -------------------- Researched by Cindy Lee and Submitted by Gloria Bushong for Cindy Lee

Boschong Subscribers, What a mess this family has turned out to be research wise but now ALL is clear! Thank God, we have this List and can correct errors in a hurry. We had posted to the BOSCHONG List back in July 2008 and August 2009 about Jackson Bushong, s/o George Bushong and Lydia Rush. That old Hillary Clinton saying "It takes a village to raise a child" can also apply to genealogical research, although I personally think it doesn't take a village but two good parents to raise a child. It does takes a team to do genealogy and find the puzzle pieces. Everything has to fit! It took Myself, the research of Carol Willsey Bell, Damon Hostetler, John Fahey, Bill and Hilda Hamby and Phyllis Hopper to find some of the facts and possibly some fiction on the family unit of two and possibly three different Jackson Bushongs. All of us were wrong in some degree. There were definitely two Jackson Bushongs who were cousins living in the same time frame and several other Jacksons along the way. One Jackson was the son of George Bushong and Lydia Rush and the another Jackson was the son of John Bushong and Eleanor Rush another was the son of Jefferson Bushong and Rachel Johnson. That has caused a real problem sorting wives. I posted about Jackson, son of George and Lydia (Rush) Bushong for the first time back in July 2008, then in August 2009 when I found the marriage record for what I thought was George and Lydia's son Jackson Bushong to Lettitia Bickham. I am posting once again, as more information has come forth and errors need to be corrected in everyone's research. I believe I am WRONG about that Jackson Bushong married to Lettitia Bickham being the son of George and Lydia Bushong. I believe that Jackson Bushong to be the son of John Bushong and Eleanor Rush, so that eliminates one of the marriages we had assigned to the Jackson, son of George and Lydia. I have also eliminated Rachel Johnson as one of the wives of Jackson, son of George and Lydia. I believe her husband to be Jefferson Bushong. Damon take note! --------------------------------- I also believe that Carol W. Bell was correct that Jackson married twice and that Jackson, s/o George and Lydia married first to Eliza Cole since that marriage took place in Putnam County, Ohio where Jackson was living with his parents and we know he was a widower in the 1850 census with small children. But she was WRONG about second wife Elizabeth Russell marrying a Harpster. She did not marry a Harpster. She married a Simmons. It was her daughter Mary E. Simmons from that marriage who married a Harpster that being Robert Newton Harpster as shown in the census records below. Elizabeth Russell married first to a Simmons and had daughter Mary E. Simmons and then she married Jackson Bushong. To show you what I am talking about, according to an old Spring 1988 which I just found, Carol W. Bell said that Jackson was married twice. First to Eliza Cole and then to Mrs. Rachel Elizabeth ____Harpster who was born August 1826 and died 1915. According to Carol she is buried at Cairo Westside Cemetery, Monroe Township, Allen County, Ohio and her tombstone reads "Grandma Bushong, 1826 - 1915." According to that Bulletin Jackson Bushong and Eliza Cole had the following children: 1. Warren Bushong 2. George Bushong 3. Eliza Bushong 4. Elizabeth Bushong And Jackson Bushong and Mrs. Rachel Elizabeth ____Harpster had the following children: 5. John W. Bushong 6. Christianna Zelma Bushong ------------------------------------ Since according to one of the census records for Jackson's wife Elizabeth R. Bushong, she stated she had 8 children with only two living I think we can assume that most of those children in the Williams Cemetery were the children of Jackson Bushong and Rachel Elizabeth Russell Bushong. Her Russell parents are buried in that same Williams Cemetery. So Jackson's second wife was born Rachel Elizabeth Russell, d/o Elijah and Elizabeth (Wright) Russell. Jackson's second wife Rachel Elizabeth Russell was married first to a Simmons and had a daughter named Mary E. Simmons who later married Robert Newton Harpster. ------------------------------------- Phyllis Hopper found these marriage record that made everything clear. Good job Phyllis! Mercer County Ohio Marriages Jackson Bushong and Elizabeth R. Simmons 8 March 1852 AND THIS MARRIAGE FOR HER DAUGHTER Allen County Ohio Marriages Robert N. Harpster and Mary E. Simmons 1 October 1868 ---------------------------------- So....... Jackson Bushong, son of George Bushong and Lydia Rush had only TWO wives: M/1: 3 September 1837, Putnam County, Ohio Eliza Cole (She died in May 1850) M/2: 8 March 1852, Mercer County, Ohio to Mrs. Elizabeth R. Simmons (She died 1915) NOTE: Elizabeth's full name at the time of her marriage to Jackson Bushong was Rachel Elizabeth (Russell) Simmons which explains her being called Rachel in the 1860 census and Elizabeth in the 1870 census. Evidently she liked Elizabeth better then the name Rachel. -------------------------------------- Ohio Death Records - 1908 - 1953 Allen County, Ohio File # 90 Name: Elizabeth R. Boschong Subscribers, Back in July 2008, I posted information about Jackson Bushong, son of George Bushong and Lydia Rush. At the time, we did not know who his first wife was. Now we know that Jackson Bushong's first wife was Eliza Cole and they married 3 September 1837 in Putnam County, Ohio. She died before the 1850 census as Jackson is a widower in that census and then he married two more times. Refer back to the July 2008 posts. We found Jackson Bushong's tombstone on FindAGrave. I am guessing that most of these children in this same cemetery belonged to Jackson Bushong and his wives. Boschong Subscribers, I feel the need to give you a basic elementary genealogy lesson. A subscriber sent me an e-mail and told me that John Bushong had died in April 1796. No he didn't. LOL That is the date (13 April 1796) that the COURT appointed Guardians for his minor children not his death date. The courts didn't move any faster back then as they do today so the death date of 1793 is a lot more realistic death date then April 1796, particularly since he died in Pennsylvania. Comprende? Boschong Subscribers, Many of you including me have had a brick wall with Elizabeth Bushong who married John Brown. Some of this information will be new to you. We posted this information to the Vashenan List hoping that perhaps someone had the key to jumping the brick wall. I added a few pieces of information to this List that I forgot to add to the other post. Let's hope it works. --------------------- Good Afternoon fellow Listmates, Is anyone else looking forward to Spring? Brrrr it was cold this morning but the tabebuia trees are blooming in beautiful colors of pink and yellow so it looks like Spring but feels like winter. I have several rather large brick walls, and I am hoping that someone on the List will recognize some of these family names and have additional information that will help me hurdle the wall. They all concern the same family, different generations. The first brick wall concerns when Elizabeth (Wendel) Bushong died and where she is buried. The second brick wall concerns when her daughter Elizabeth (Bushong) Brown died and where she is buried. The third brick wall concerns when John Brown died and where he is buried. The fourth brick wall concerns when the daughter Eliza (Brown) Peer died and where she is buried. This agreement was like a "rent to own" agreement between John Bushong and his brother-in-law John Brown. The way we interpret this is John Bushong had been renting this property from John Brown for $1 per year, John Brown got into some financial trouble, the property was ordered to be sold at a sheriff's sale and John Bushong bought this piece outright for $100 on the courthouse steps in 1832. The property was probably on the line between Shenandoah and Page County, that's why the agreement was found in Page County where John Brown was living. The time frame of this agreement was around the time when John Bushong married in 1833 to Catharine (Ruffner) Clem. 1832 - Agreement between John Bushong and brother-in-law John Brown Page County Virginia Deed Book A Page 209-210 Family History Library, Salt Lake City Film/Fiche # 2047164 "Article of agreement made this 5th of February 1832, Between John Brown of Page County and State of Virginia and John Bushong of the County of Shenandoah and State aforesaid. Boschong Subscribers, We are so sad to report the passing last Monday, 7 February 2011, of Betty M. (Caulkins) Bushong, the wife of one of our favorite cousins, Lowell "Bud" Bushong. Russell and I have known them a very long time. Betty was a very caring person, almost like a second mother to me, and has been a great moral support, particularly after the passing of my husband Russell in 2008 and that time after. She and Bud were always hilarious together, keeping us laughing along the way and she was very much interested in the Bushong family history, sending me articles clipped from Ohio newspapers and putting me in touch with various other Bushong descendants living in her area. Bud is a descendant of Benjamin Harrison Bushong and Catharine Hisey from Shenandoah County, Virginia. There are a lot of photos in the Ancestors album that were sent to me by Bud, Betty and daughter Sandy. The first time Russell and I met Bud and Betty, they lived in Sebring, Florida where they were in a retirement community. They were the first Bushongs outside of Russell's immediate family that we had ever met and I believe it was vice versa for them. We would drive down to Sebring many times during the years and visit and have lunch as a group with not only Bud and Betty but also Burnis and Thelma Bushong who lived in Avon Park. The six of us loved to get together and we had a really great time trying out various restaurants in the area between Sebring and Avon Park, talking about the Bushong family and all the various stories that go along with that. We would all have a great time then and at the Bushong Reunions too. Health issues had kept all of them from coming to the last few reunions and Bud and Betty had left Florida to return to Bryan, Ohio to be closer to their daughter Sandy after the health issues had cropped up. I still stop in once in a while to visit with Burnis and Thelma on my way down to Miami or talk to them on the telephone. I can still hear Betty saying "Oh?" in her funny little way when we would tell her something of interest. She will be greatly missed but we know she is with our heavenly Father. Bud's health is not very good as he is battling cancer and Betty's passing is a real blow to him. He is at home but with 24 hour care. My love goes out to each one of the family. I am going to create a new photo album for personal photos that Russell and I had taken through the years as we visited with various Bushongs and also some that have been sent to us by them. What's missing in the obit below is the fact that when they were able, they attended the Brethren Church. ----------------------------------- The Bryan Times Bryan, Ohio 8 February 2011 Betty M. Bushong (1920 — 2011) Betty M. Bushong, 91, of Bryan and formerly of Pioneer, died Monday, Feb. 7, 2011, at Community Hospitals and Wellness Centers-Bryan. A 1938 graduate of West Unity High School, she was a homemaker and had been co-owner and operator of Bud’s Supermarket in Pioneer for 21 years, retiring in 1973. Surviving, in addition to her husband, are children, Mrs. James (Sandra) Rupp of Pioneer, Mrs. William (Sharon) Burrows of Port Huron, Mich. and Bill (Joyce) Bushong of Calhoun, Ga.; seven grandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandchild; two step grandchildren; and a brother, Richard Caulkins of Bryan. Visitation will be held Wednesday from 1 p.m. until the time of service, 2 p.m., in the Thompson Funeral Home, Pioneer, with Nelson Rupp to officiate. Interment will be at Floral Grove Cemetery, Pioneer. Memorials may be made to the Bryan Senior Center. ------------------------- Submitted by Gloria Bushong
Good Morning Boschong Subscribers, Very cold here this morning. Dreaming of Spring as I am sure many of you are too. We mislabeled a photo in the Ancestor's album on Page 3. The three standing in the photo are not Alexanders but are descendants of Benjamin Harrison Bushong and Catharine Hisey of Shenandoah County, Virginia who went to Williams County, Ohio. Sorry for the mistake. We had been sent photos of both families about the same time and somehow mixed up that particular photo. Pictured in the photo which we had first labeled Alexander Family - Descendants of John M. and Lydia Haun Bushong but NOW relabeled Great great grandchildren of Benjamin Harrison Bushong and Catharine Hisey are: Roger Douglass Sharol (Douglass) Mann Karen (Douglass) Wampler Thanks to Roger for calling this to my attention. He is sending me some photos concerning Andrew Bushong's farm so will add those and what ever else he sends me to the photo album in the future. Gloria Bushong
