Good Afternoon Boschong Subscribers, We have found another amazing piece of information. We knew about David Bushong who was born in 1767 and died with a Will in 1827 in Sullivan County, Tennessee but who is THIS David Bushong? ---------------------------- Augusta County Delinquents 1771 - 1772 Transcribed by Barbara Vines Little CG, FVGS Sworn to before me this 19th November 1772 - Samuel McDowell A List of Supernumeraries DAVID BUSHONG NOTE: Since in 1770 Botetourt County, Virginia was formed out of Augusta County, VA., it is possible that the taxes were paid in Botetourt County and recorded there and that's why Augusta County thought they were delinquent. ----------------------------- We know this cannot be David Bushong mentioned who died in 1827 since he was only 5 years old. We don't believe that this could be David Bosang from our January 2005 posts since his name was spelled Bosang in all of the court records. He stayed in Augusta County and died in 1777. So who is this David Bushong? --------------------------------- Researched and Submitted by Gloria Bushong

The Mahoning Dispatch Canfield, Mahoning County, Ohio 29 January 1915 Page 1, Column 1 The Columbiana County Historical Society may be interested in the following entries taken from an old day book kept by John Moore of Washington Township, Carroll County, 75 years ago then part of Columbiana County. This interesting old relic was home made and consists of two dozen sheets of paper each 8 by 12 inches stitched together with flax thread. Many of the items are of great interest in this day and age. The oldest date in the book is 1822. James Monroe was President, Andrew Jackson was fighting Seminole Indians, Thomas Jefferson and John Adams each had four more years to live, a tall lank youth named Abraham Lincoln was educating himself in numbers by figuring in the soot on the bowl of a spade when this little book was new. {skipped to item of interest in book}. Allen, Clerk of The House of Representatives. Volume IV Washington: Published By Gales & Seaton 1859 Page 119 CLAIMS IN LOUISIANA 155. Andrew Bassam, of the parish of Natchitoches, filed his notice claiming, by virtue of occupation, habitation, and cultivation, a tract of land lying within the late neutral territory, situated on the Cany bayou, waters of the Bayou of the Three Prairies, bounded on all sides by vacant land, and containing 640 acres. The claim is supported by the following testimony taken before the board: "F. Gonzales and Martin Dios, being duly sworn, say that they know the land claimed by Andrew Bassam in his above notice; that the same is lying and situate as is therein described; that said land was habited, occupied, and cultivated by the claimant by his living and growing corn, & c., thereon, on and previous to February 22, 1819; that said inhabitation, occupation, and cultivation has been uninterruptedly continued by the claimant since that time to the present day; and that the claimant's improvements on the land claimed embrace about ten acres." We are of opinion this claim ought to be confirmed, and in the abstract have classed it with claims of the "third class." ----------------------------- 1820 Census for Louisiana Natchitoches Parish Jean B. Boschong Subscribers, One of my Facebook friends is the great great grandson of William Woods Foster who was married to Eliza Ann Bushong, d/o James and Mary (Hancher) Bushong, son of Henry Bushong and Isabelle Summers. Back in August 2006 we posted information about Henry Bushong and wife Isabella Summers so check the BOSCHONG Archives for that month and year for more information. Their son James Bushong born 13 July 1801, as recorded in the family Bible, went to Benton County, Missouri very early on with a group of other Kentuckians. He married Mary A. Hancher and they had a daughter named Eliza Ann Bushong who was born in 1848 married in 1869 to William Woods Foster. We believe she died in 1878. Since I was curious about Dan's genealogy, I decided to do research on Eliza Ann Bushong and husband William Woods Foster. It was quite a challenge and I have found some very interesting facts. First of all I don't believe that Eliza Ann (Bushong) Foster died in 1873, probably more like 1878. When you are dealing with handwriting it can sometimes be misintrepreted and 8's tend to look like 3's, 3's look like 5's and vice versa. The fact that William Foster did not marry Miss Frances Robertson until 1880 makes me think this. To verify the second marriage, I called the Benton County Courthouse and spoke with the Clerk in the Recorders office who looked up the marriage and verified the original marriage record date as 1880. They were married at the residence of Bird Bushong. Note: There is an Eliza Foster who died in St. Louis, Missouri in 1873 but we don't believe that this Eliza Foster is the one who married William Woods Foster. If we find more information to refute this, we will correct it. The Clerk in Benton County, Missouri is sending me a copy of the marriage record for that second marriage if William Woods Foster. If anyone wants a copy, let me know. We may never know who William Woods Foster's parents are as by 1850 and 1860 he is living as a boy with various relatives. Unfortunately we have not found an actual death date or a place of burial for Eliza and probably never will because of the dam and lake it created by that dam and some of the cemeteries are underwater. Unfortunately the courthouse does not have death records that early but based on the evidence we found, the two children in the household in the 1880 household of William Woods Foster were children of his first marriage to Eliza Ann Bushong. William Woods Foster married the 8th January 1880 in the residence of Bird Bushong to Miss Frances Robertson in Benton County, Missouri and after the 1880 census in Missouri and sometime in 1882, the family moved to Santa Barbara County, California to be closer to his Uncle Malcolm G. Foster. In the 1850 census William Woods Foster is living with various Aunts and Uncles one of which is Malcolm G. Foster. I think it is a good idea to note that this ship contained a large group of Palatinates. I descend also from Rudolph Holsinger, a passenger on this ship, who was definitely from a Germanic area of Europe. The Holsingers eventually married into Alexander Mack's descendants. Holsingers and Macks were prominent in the German Baptist Church (Dunkers), which is now known as the Church of the Brethren. BUSHONG Died September 1863 -------------------------- Correction on this tombstone. We believe this should read as per Fall 1991 Bushong Bulletin: John H. Bushong Died 9 September 1862 ----------------------------- Elcey was nearing the end of her pregnancy with John H. Bushong (Jr.) when her husband died and a month later gave birth. The son only lived 3 months and died in January. He is buried in this cemetery too. Death date was 11 January 1863. Must have been a really sad time for her. Could be a twin of the baby John H. Someone needs to go to this cemetery and take some flour and rubbing paper with them to see if tombstone can be read. Bushong and Adaline (Brubaker) Bushong had a son named Samuel Bushong born 20 November 1835 and died 17 June 1854. Good Afternoon Boschong Subscribers, We found this article in the old newspaper and thought it rather interesting. Women's Lib that took hold in the 1960-70 era was nothing new. To think that there were girl's baseball teams back this early is amazing and I've been told, they took their baseball rather seriously back then. This was back when baseball was really baseball. The field they played in was part of the property owned, I believe, by Edward Mark Bushong but I could be wrong. ----------------------------- The Shenandoah Herald Friday, 21 July 1893 Page 3, Column 3 The New York young Ladies Base Ball Club, a nine composed of expert young lady players, will cross bats with the Woodstock Club on Monday afternoon next, July 24th, at 4 o'clock. The game will be played in Bushong's field, adjoining Indian springs, the new park, on the south edge of town. The game will be an interesting one, as the ladies play ball with a vim that will give the Woodstock boys all they are looking for, and then some, Don't fail to see these handsome ladies bat the ball all over the gable end of creation, and show their twinkling feet as they fly around the bases. --------------------- Researched and Submitted by Gloria Bushong
Boschong Subscribers, We have no way of proving that John H. Bushong is the son of William A. Bushong and wife Adeline Brubaker but it certainly points that way. They did have a son in the 1850 household that is the correct age so we are including the census to show you this. He died before William A. Bushong and until proven otherwise, we are strongly leaning towards him being the father. ------------ 1850 Federal Census: Ohio Fairfield Township, Columbiana County Enumerated 4 October 1850 Page 81A Lines 13-21, HH 390/395 William A.
