Boschong Subscribers, We found more information on Joseph Bushong, his daughter, and his granddaughter. Since this is such a large post, I could have made errors so please let me know if you see any. Any additional information would be appreciated, although I tried to put as much as I could find in this post. What happened to daughter Mary A. Bushong in 1850 census. It is the only one she shows up with the family. I do not believe at this point that this Joseph Bushong is the son of John Bushong and Anna Stover. If there is any document to prove it please let me know. I'm thinking this man is related to the Putnam County, Ohio Bushongs but I could be wrong. Sarah Elizabeth Bushong, daughter of Joseph Bushong and Margaret Ray married George W. Lytle in Putnam County, Ohio 30 November 1871. George W. Lytle was the son of David Lytle and Susannah Solomon. For many years he had not been in the best of health and last week a turn for the worst became apparent. For some months he has been making a home with Wilbur Weeks and wife, Mrs. Weeks being a granddaughter. The death of his wife last winter had much to do with his early demise. Since then he has gradually declined in health. The deceased had reached the ripe old age of 82 years. The funeral was held on Sunday afternoon from the Christian church, conducted by the I. O. O. The remains were interred in the Campbell cemetery in Allen county. ------------------- Ohio Deaths and Burials 1854 - 1997 FamilySearch.org Name of Deceased: JOSEPH BUSHONG Place of Death: Monroe Township, Allen County, Ohio Male, White, Widowed, Farmer Died: 9 November 1901 Aged 82 years Born: Pennsylvania -------------------- We could not find a tombstone inscription for this Joseph Bushong on FindAGrave. Boschong Subscribers, We were shocked to find this obit for the grandson of Jim Bushong who was the Treasurer of the past Bushong Bulletin. Jim died in 2010 and his obit is in the BOSCHONG Archives for June 2010. Our sincere condolences to his parents and grandmother Shirley and the family on losing one so young and so close to losing Jim! The Bushong family can be proud of this young man. ------------------------- The Odessa American Odessa, Texas 12 May 2011 JASON RANDALL BUSHONG ODESSA, TX Jason Randall Bushong was born October 26, 1987 in Odessa, Texas. He joined Jesus and others he loved on May 8, 2011. Jason graduated from Levelland High School with honors in 2006 where he played varsity basketball and golf. He attended Frank Phillips College on a golf scholarship, and worked as an Independent Petroleum Landman for the past two years. Jason was a member of Ranchland Heights Baptist Church, where he taught Sunday school and was active with the youth group. He was preceded in death by his paternal grandfather, Jim Bushong, and maternal grandparents Don and Fay Allison. Known as a caring and compassionate person, Jason was a kind soul who never met a stranger. He was a "gentle giant" with a sweet spirit who hugged freely and loved deeply. A loyal friend to many and a dependable caregiver to his family, Jason was a "rock" in times of need and was always willing to help. His smile could light up the room, while his wit and humor brought laughter to many. He loved the Lord, his family (especially his niece Mallary), his friends whom he considered his family, and his dog Daisy. His happiest times were spent with his love Kaleigh, playing basketball and golf, coaching Little Dribblers Basketball, helping the youth at church and church camp, working on cars and stereos, and spending time with friends. Jason's ministry, testimony, and memory will live on, as he lives in our hearts forever. Jason is survived by his father, Randy Bushong; mother, Kitrena Bushong; sister, Renee Pettigrew and husband, Shae; niece, Mallary; and grandmother, Shirley Bushong; numerous aunts, uncles, cousins; and a multitude of friends. The family will receive friends at Acres West Funeral Home on Friday, May 13, 2011, from 6p.m. to 8p.m. A memorial service to honor Jason's life will be on Saturday, May 14, 2011, at 10a.m. at Calvary Baptist Church, 8644 Andrews Highway, Odessa, Texas, with Pastor Gary Douglas officiating. Burial will follow at Sunset Memorial Gardens. Services are entrusted to Acres West Funeral Chapel. ---------------------- Copied and Submitted by Gloria Bushong
Boschong Subscribers, Back in April 2009 I posted some marriage information about Susannah Rodabaugh who married Jacob Bushong in 1836 and a 1837 Quit Claim Deed concerning Susannah (Rodabaugh) Bushong and Peter Bushong, brother of her husband Jacob Bushong. We had never looked for a second marriage for her so at the time we thought that this Jacob Bushong was born around 1813. We have revised that estimate and re-identified Jacob with his father Augustine in the 1820 census below. I based this on the age of Susannah Rodabaugh who was born in 1808. Susannah Rodabaugh was born 1808, the daughter of Daniel Rodabaugh and Elizabeth Meyers. The family came from Westmoreland County, Pennsylvania around 1820, first moving to Columbiana County, Ohio near the border of Pennsylvania, and then in 1831, Daniel Rodabaugh obtained land in Montgomery County, Ohio where they lived briefly until around 1833, when he sold that land and moved to Hancock County, Ohio with a group of Brethren who have followed them from PA to OH. We are still wondering about Susannah Rodabaugh's first husband Jacob Bushong. We are pretty sure that he was the son of Augustine Bushong and wife Barbara Keller as shown in the 1820 census below and was born between 1804 and 1810 Because of the 1837 Quit Claim Deed where Susannah (Rodabaugh) Bushong is signing to Peter Bushong, this Peter being the brother to Jacob Bushong, her husband. The Quit Claim Deed does not state that she is a widow so we are wondering what exactly is going on here. I am waiting for another Deed to come from Hancock County, hoping things might be a little clearer in that one. Within 3 years of marrying Jacob Bushong, he disappears and she marries Richard Sims in March 1839. Did Jacob Bushong die? Did they divorce or was their marriage annulled? Did he desert her? Where is he buried? What happened to him? Does anyone have any thoughts on this? ---------------------- Augustine Bushong and wife Barbara Keller were married 11 August 1807 in Columbiana County, Ohio. 1820 Federal Census: Ohio Fairfield Township, Columbiana County Page 60 Line 6 Agusteen Bushong 3 males under 10 years of age (John Thomas, Peter and ???) 1 male 10 and under sixteen (Jacob Bushong married to Susannah Rodabaugh) 1 male 26 and under 45 years of age (Augustine Bushong) 1 female 10 and under sixteen (Betsey) 1 female 26 and under 45 years of age (Wife Barbara) 1 engaged in manufacture ----------------------------- Hancock County Ohio Marriage Records (Information obtained from Clerk of the Court of Hancock County, through a telephone conversation) Also both marriage images are on the Family History site for those who want to view them. Boschong Subscribers, One of our cousins is running for Sheriff of Lee County, Florida Lee descends from Augustine Bushong married to Barbara Keller. He is following in the footsteps of many in this lineage who were either Judges, Justices of the Peace or in law enforcement. Good luck to him in his efforts. ------------------------- FORT MYERS — Lee Bushong, a former lieutenant with the Lee County Sheriff's Office, will make public his decision to run for Lee County Sheriff at 12:10 p.m. on Saturday, May 7, on the north steps of the Old Courthouse, which is located at 2120 Main St. in Fort Myers. Bushong was born in 1974 in Ohio. During 1992, he joined the U.S. Marine Corps, where he served two tours. Upon his separation from the Marines, Lee joined the Lee County Sheriff’s Office. During his career with the Sheriff's Office, he served in a variety of capacities, including patrolman, as a general crimes detective and as a detective in the homicide unit. After his tour in homicide, he was promoted to sergeant and served as a patrol supervisor. He brought new concepts in aggressive, criminal targeted programs that resulted in removing key criminals in South Fort Myers and Fort Myers Beach. Soon after, he was promoted to detective sergeant, and later lieutenant. Bushong resigned in December 2009 in order to prepare to run for this office. He currently lives in the Gateway area of Fort Myers with his wife and children. Bushong said he believes in accountability and that, as the sheriff, he will be solely responsible for all things within the office - good and bad. Boschong Subscribers, I just received the following e-mail after asking the clerk at Hancock County, Ohio to do a search to see if there was any woman who died at the end of 1886 and here was the e-mail from the clerk, Laura. Needless to say, this is turning into a real mystery for sure! Now, I am going to go back to the library in Wood County and have them check the date on the obit for Mrs. Jacob Bushong to see if possibly CWB made a typo error when she put it in the Bulletin. Gloria --------------- Hi Gloria: I'm sorry, but I was unable to find any death record for a female Bushong on 12/30/1886. I searched through our death record book # 2-A which covers the years of 1880 - 1902. The only entry that came close was an Ione Bushong, a 23 year old married female who died on 3/10/1890. Her place of death was Williamstown, Ohio and she died of consumption. Let me know if I can be of further assistance. Laura Smith Hancock Co. Probate Court

Boschong Subscribers, Back in May 2007 we posted about Daniel Bushong and his son O. M. Bushong so check the BOSCHONG Archives to refresh your memory. We found this Supreme Court of Appeals Decision concerning them and thought it was worth sharing. We are only giving a small portion of the whole bill as it is long and they refer to other court cases to make their point. ------------------ The Southeastern Reporter Volume 9 Pages 225 & 228 BUSHONG VS RECTOR Supreme Court of Appeals of West Virginia 4 March 1889 HUSBAND AND WIFE - EJECTMENT - EQUITY 1. A wife living with her husband on land, and claiming the land as her separate estate, under a right derived from a person other than her husband, prior to commencement of the action, cannot be turned out of possession by a writ of possession in an action of ejectment against her husband to which she was not a party. In such case she is as to her claim, a person distinct from her husband, and must be made a party to the action, like any other person in order to bind her by the judgement. 2. In such case equity has jurisdiction by injunction to restrain the execution of the writ of possession as to her. the parties will be left without prejudice from the decree to test their titles at law. Appeal from Circuit Court, Wood County. R. Hehr Smith fro appellant. John A. Hutchinson for appellees. Brannon, J. In July, 1882, Enoch Rector brought an action of ejectment in the Circuit Court of Wood County against Daniel Bushong and O. M. Bushong, for 100 acres and 31 poles of land, and in November, 1883, recovered judgment and issued a writ of possession, when Elizabeth Bushong obtained an injunction against the enforcement of the wit as to her. Rector answered the bill, denying plaintiff's right and depositions of numerous witnesses were taken, and the court dissolved the injunction and dismissed the bill, reserving right to Elizabeth Bushong to defend or prosecute any right or claim she might have relative to the land in any proceeding at law. The record shows that by Deed of 21 May 1880, one Peter Curry conveyed the land to Elizabeth Bushong, who is the wife of O. M. Bushong, which Deed was recorded 3 June 1881, and it also shows a Deed dated 16 February 1874, recorded 25 April 1882, from Daniel Bushong to Rector. Daniel Bushong was in possession, though not under any title so far as appears, eight years before he made the Deed to Rector, in 1874. The land belonged to an oil company which suspended operations and abandoned the land, and Bushong simply took possession of it as if without an owner. Rector was owned of $2000 stock in the oil company, and set up a claim to the land on that account, and sought possession in order to thereby obtain title, as he says. Upon his conveyance to Rector, Daniel Bushong took a lease for one year in writing from Rector, and continued in possession under a verbal arrangement afterwards. He was to pay taxes, and did so for five years, (1867-1871), and handed over to Rector the tax receipts, which he files in the name of J. S. Hoffman for part of the time, and Imperial and Kanawha Oil Company for part of the time. O. M. Bushong is a son of Daniel, and was living with his father on the land when he married the plaintiff, Elizabeth Bushong and he states that he and his wife lived there from 1869. He states that Daniel turned over the possession to his wife and himself in 1870, in consideration that they were to support Daniel and his wife. Elizabeth Bushong in one deposition states that she had been in possession since 1870, and, when asked who put her in possession, answered that Daniel Bushong did, under agreement by her to keep him and his wife; and in another deposition stated that Peter Curry put her in possession, and also that Daniel Bushong put her in possession, in consideration that she would keep him and his wife during life, and that under that agreement she had kept Daniel until his death, and was still keeping his wife. The evidence shows that O. M. Bushong, recognized himself as a tenant of Rector, and then he sued. Elizabeth Bushong appeals here for relief against the decree of the Circuit Court. The plaintiff complains that she is to be turned out of house and home by a writ of possession upon a judgement in ejectment to which she was not a party. SKIPPED The decree of the circuit court is reversed and the injunction as prayed for in the bill is to be perpetuated, with costs to Elizabeth Bushong in both courts, without prejudice from this decree to the parties from asserting any title to the land they may have in any other suit. ---------------------------- Researched, Copied and Submitted by Gloria Bushong

7 March 2011 PORTAGE {Ohio} - A Columbus resident lost $4,000 to a contractor who refused to start the job he was paid to do, according to Columbus police. The contractor, Todd L. Bushong, 36, of Stoughton, appeared by video from Jefferson County Jail during an initial appearance Friday in Columbia County Circuit Court. He faces 1 1/2 years in prison on a charge of felony theft in a business setting. Columbus police say Bushong was charged Jan. 11 after he accepted a $4,000 payment in a roofing contract with a Columbus resident Sept. 27 but failed to do any work. The homeowner told police Bushong promised to begin the job Oct. 4 but did not show up, then told the homeowner that shingles were not available until Oct. 18, according to a criminal complaint. The homeowner did not hear from Bushong after Oct. 5, police said. Police said Bushong told them he was in contact with the homeowner about starting the work, but the homeowner said Bushong never contacted him. Police said Bushong did not obey a police order to bring a cashier's check for $4,000 to the Columbus Police Department by noon Oct. 18, according to the complaint. Bushong is in Jefferson County Jail after his probation was revoked Thursday; he was sentenced to two years of probation on March 2010 in Jefferson County Circuit Court after pleading no contest to three counts of misdemeanor fourth-degree sexual assault. Bushong was ordered to sign a $5,000 signature bond and to appear March 25 for a pretrial conference and April 6 for a court hearing. [email protected]_ (mailto:[email protected])
