My grandmother was a Borton; her grandfather Jesse established the town on land he owned beginning after 1870. She and I were last there in 1963. We drove through town and passed a church on a street corner. I believe it was a Methodist Church (resembled many churches built in that period after the Civil War in the Midwest). She mentioned the church in coversation while we were there..but the details escape me. A recent Google Map view suggested not many of the original structures--homes or businesses or the church--remain. I would think more information may be available at the Edgar County Historical Society in Paris...perhaps even photos and documents of the church...also..a winner of the Congressional Medal of Honor from WWII was from Borton. Good luck on your research. Important Note: The author of this message may not be subscribed to this list.
