I have researched the family for several years and I have a pretty clear picture of the branches of the family. They all originate in Anyho, with William, who siblings spelled there surname, Bourton, which I believe that you will find is the name of that general region prior to the 1500's and are of Anglo-Saxon heritage. William's Grandson, John became a Quaker and moved his family to "West Jersey" in America in the mid 1600's. Another branch of the family left Anyho in the 1800's and emigrated to Wellington, Ontario, Canada. The balance of those with the surname are still primarily located in England. Among those of note are Colonel Arthur Close Borton, who's sons were prominent in WWI. Also Neville Arthur Blackley Borton, Vicar. His Grandfather, James Borton was an Attorney in Bury St., Edmund, England, starting in the late 1700's. Important Note: The author of this message may not be subscribed to this list.
