This was the year that they began certificates and they went a bit wild and asked for all sorts of info that was never included again. If you're lucky, it will tell you siblings, it may even say where he was baptised. Only baptisms of the Church of Scotland are in the iGI, if they were anything else, they won't be. Also, try the 1851 census for Langholm. He should be there as a small child, and the census should give you the parish.
