    3. Hi Everyone, This message is being posted as a reminder of correct procedures which hopefully will help you as a subscriber to this list. CONTACTING THE LISTOWNER: I am Gordon Beckett the listowner of this list and if you need to contact me I can be reached at: boglelodge@a-znet.com POSTING MESSAGES: 1. The correct address to post a message to the list is: BORDER-L@rootsweb.com regardless of whether you are in mail mode or digest mode. 2. TURN OFF all HTML and other options. Rootsweb will not accept messages containing these and you will receive a message letting you know that your message did not reach the list. For more information on this please check the site at: http://www.rootsweb.com/rootsweb/listowners/html-off.htm UNSUBSCRIBING: 1. Before unsubscribing please make sure that you are using the correct address: Use: BORDER-L-request@rootsweb.com if you are receiving the list messages as individual messages. Use: BORDER-D-request@rootsweb.com if you are receiving the list messages in Digest. . 2. If you subscribed to the list and then change your e-mail address please unsubscribe from your old address BEFORE subscribing with your new address. 3. If you forget to do this and want to unsubscribe you may find yourself unable to do so as you cannot unsubscribe an old address using a new address. Just write to me, tell me which address to unsubscribe and I will take care of it. 4. PLEASE unsubscribe if you plan on being away from the list for a period of time, if you use an ISP that limits the amount of mail you are allowed to receive we will start to receive error messages from your address and you will be automatically removed from the list. SUBSCRIBING 1. If you use YAHOO as your ISP you have to be manually subscribed to the list. So if you unsubscribe and then wish to resubscribe your request will come to one of us and we will then resubscribe you. I'm telling you this because you may not receive confirmation of your subscription right away and there is no need to keep sending in the command to subscribe, OK? NOT RECEIVING MESSAGES: If you suddenly stop receiving messages from the list let me know right away. It could be that you have been unsubscribed from the list (this can happen for a wide range of reasons) and I will need to check your subscription status. SUBJECT LINES: When posting a message to the list please make sure that the subject line is relevant to the topic in hand. Subjects such as "My Surnames", "Help", and such will not help you, if anything subscribers tend to delete these types of messages. CAPITALIZING SURNAMES: When posting your interests please make sure that all surnames you are researching are typed in CAPITAL letters not the whole message just the surnames. This makes it much easier for others to read. NO FLAMING: Flaming will not be tolerated on this list. There will be no rude comments, no derogatory remarks or and no discussion of flaming on the list. For definitions of flaming and related information see: http://www.matisse.net/files/glossary.html#F Anyone violating this rule WILL BE removed! DO NOT... .impose any other rules or conditions, expressed or implied elsewhere, upon this list. Rules of other forums may not necessarily apply here. Do not try to regulate this list. If you do not like the way someone formats their queries or responses, or the content of their subject titles, take it up with one of us, NOT via the list. The list is for Genealogy and History. ACKNOWLEDGEMENTS: Please acknowledge replies to your queries. This is a regular occurrence where someone will reply to your message but receive no acknowledgement that you have received it and not even a simple thank you for any information they have furnished you with. REPLIES: When REPLYING to a message sent to the list decide if this is information that all the list members would like to know about or whether it would only be of interest to the individual you are replying too. If you feel that all list members would find it of interest then by all means post your reply to the list but if it includes such details that would only be of interest to this one person then please just reply to that person. Thank you. POST... If you post your query frequently, perhaps once a month, if you have not yet found your ancestor. New people are joining the list all the time and they may have the info you need. I hope this helps, if anyone thinks something should be included in this message please let me know and I will include it in the next posting. regards Gordon
