    1. DAVISON FAMILY OF ALNWICK

    3. I am trying to find out more about my DAVISON family who lived in and around Alnwick. I believe they originated in Wooler and the first record I have is a marriage of Thomas Davison and Isabella FORREST 22 July 1782 as part of the Dissenting Congregation. Their children were George, b.1783 in Wooler, William b.1785, Elizabeth b. 1788 in Alnwick, Jane 1791, Isabella 1793, Margaret 1796 and Mary 1799. Thomas was a Cutler and Gunsmith and after the move to Alnwick lived in Narrowgate St. He died in 1827 and Isabella in 1833. He seemed to have remained a Presbyterian but his son George later became Church of England and was a church warden of St Michael's in 1818. George continued his father's trade as a gunsmith and when he died in 1827 he had premises at 5 Market Place Alnwick, 63, Pilgrim St Newcastle, and 29 Collingwood Place Gateshead. George married first Margaret BILTON ( 1784-1815) by whom he had 5 sons, Thomas Bilton ,1806, George 1808, John 1811, Edward 1813 and Bilton 1815 and after her death he married Mary ANDERSON who had another 5 sons, Robert Anderson 1818, William Edward Septimus 1819, Charles Edward 1822 Alexander 1825 and George 1827. I am not sure who carried on the business on George Davison's death but Piggots Directory of 1831 refers to a Mary Davison, Gunsmith of Market Place Alnwick so possibly the widow may have run the business for a while. I know nothing of the offsping of the brothers except for Charles Edward who went to India with Edward . There was an uncle there, possibly an ANDERSON brother of Mary's. In Simla Charles married a Sarah Seton CHISHOLM 3 Aug 1848. In India she gave birth to Charles Chishol 1849, George William 1851 and Henry Jocelyn 1853. They moved to England and she had Sarah Mary in London 1855, Robert Edward in Laurencekirk 1856, William Seton 1858 Amy Septima 1859 and Isabella Georgina 1861 in Warblington then John Anderson in 1864. By then they had moved to Morpeth. In 1866 Sarah died either from too many children or perhaps the northern climate was too cold for someone born in India. Charles then married a Margaret CAISLEY in 1868. and the 2 surviving children of this marriage were Alfred Norris who later migrated to Canada and Emily Wilding who became an ardent suffragette dying in 1913. If any of this looks familiar please let me know . So far I haven't found anyone else researching this particular family. Very hopefully Moira. __________________________________________________ Do You Yahoo!? Yahoo! Photos -- now, 100 FREE prints! http://photos.yahoo.com
