I am looking for information about John Birrell or Birrel who was born about 1788 in Old Graitney in Dumfries I believe he may be the son of George Birrell and Mary Elliot but cannot be certain. At some point he moved to Wetheral in Cumberland and married Rachel Miller 22 Jun 1815. Their children were Mary 1816, Joseph, 1817, George 1819, James 1821, Jane 1821, Margaret 1826, and Rachel 1828. All the children married so there must be a number of families resulting from John and Rachel. I know that George and his family migrated to Australia. My Grandfather who was descended from James always claimed that he had Birrell cousins who migrated to Canada. John Birrell died in 1861. During his life he seemed to have many career changes.
