From: jpgeist Subject: Olivers,Jedburgh Hi Greg, you will be pleased to know the "Railway Tavern" is still there but I'm afraid the railway is long gone.I found T Oliver, proprietor of the "Railway Tavern" 52 High St Jedburgh in 1866. The 1881 Census entry is; 52 High St Jedburgh ROBERT LAMB,head, mar, 29,publican born Jedburgh. JANE LAMB,wife,35,born Hawick ISABELLA OLIVER(Lamb),stepdau,17,barmaid,born Jedburgh. THOMAS OLIVER(Lamb),stepson,14,saddlers app, born Jedburgh. AGNES P OLIVER(Lamb),stepdau,12,scholar.born Jed. ANNIE H OLIVER(Lamb),stepdau,10,scholar,born Jed Mary Richardson,relative,unm,24,wool weaver, born Hawick Does this make any sense to you? There are 4 Peter Olivers,1 born 1841,1born 1875,2 born 1880.I can send these if you want them. The only Michael Oliver that seems to match is, LOCHSIDE HOUSE,MOREBATTLE 1881 MICHAEL OLIVER head, mar 58,gardener,born Jedburgh NELLY OLIVER wife,55,born Cavers. ISABELLA OLIVER,dau,18,fieldworker,born Jedburgh. ARCHIBALD OLIVER,son,18,forester,born Jedburgh THOMAS OLIVER,son,14,ag lab, born Jedburgh, Also;46 High St Jedburgh. ALISON WARK,head, widow 69,retired grocer, born Jedburgh, perhaps there is a connection there? There are a lot of Olivers in Jedburgh in 1881,let me know if you have any questions, have you been to Jedburgh? I went to school there, just around the corner from the "Railway Tavern"!.Keep in touch,Amanda ,Canada.
