My name is Robert Skipp. I live in Renfrew, Pennsylvania, USA. I recently resume family research and have reason to beleive most of my father's side of the family came from the Borders area, which by the way appears to be a fascinating area of the U.K. My g-grandmother was Barbara Jackson, who's 1907 obituary said he was born in "Durham, England." Barbara Jackson married William Skipp in England. Her parents were Margaret Elizabeth Urwin and John William Jackson, who lived in Pittsburgh in the 1880s, although I have no idea where they came from. My g-grandfather was Alexander Fairbairn, who married Mary Ann Scarth in Pittington, Durham Co., in 1875. ALexander's parents were Wiliam Fairbairn and Alice Miller. Mary Ann's parents were WIlliam Scarth and Martha Nicholson. ALexander and Mary Ann came to the U.S. in 1876 from West Sleckburn. I have photos of them from Sunderland and Broughty-Ferry and beleive Alexander was from Dunse. The Fairbairns are a sept of the Armstrong Clan, a well-known BOrders area clan. Would appreciate hearing from any Fairbairn, Urwin, Jackson, Scarth or Nicholson; especially anyone to whom those names are familiar.
