    3. I just could not wait till Friday. I am starting to get too many repeats. I think this just about exhausts the list of some very interesting derivations. Copy it quick before its gone and happy hunting. By the by, I think that I shall trawl for any name that swims by if you want to just send me the natural, normal and most acceptable name first and your various derivations to follow...I will attempt to keep things sorted out. But please do not ask me for any names. And please do not expect me to respond to any questions. I shall post again in two weeks, Friday, October 27, unless the names dwindle out or there is a lack of interest. SO HERE IS DEAR ELIZABETH IN ALL HER VARIOUS 62 COSTUMES: I cannot even begin to thank all the contributors to this list. It is obvious that many names are children's attempts at pronouncing their own, or their relatives' names. These names probably stuck and became the most familiar. Add to this the respective accents from the various corners of the Isles, and the tradition of scribing phonetically, and we can see the obvious assault on a good Christian name. These names stretch the length and breadth of the British Isles and are not indigenous to any specific area. If there are repeats, I will leave it to you to fix them. If one is missing, you add it to yours only. My eyes are crossed! "From the lone shieling of the misty island, Mountains divide us and the waste of seas; Yet still the blood is strong, the heart is Highland, And we in dreams behold the Hebrides. Fair these broad meads, these hoary woods are grand -- But we are exiles from our fathers' land." That's all for now. Best wishes -- Rob ***********************************************************************
