Researching the family of Sir Alfred EWING, born Dundee 27 Mar 1855 to James EWING and Marjory FERGUSON, Prof of Mechanical Engineering at Dundee and Edinburgh, director of Naval Education 1903 and ran Room 40, the RN cryptographers 1914-1918. He says in his autobiography that he came from a solid farming background but not where. His parents had married in Dundee 5 Jan 1847 but they gave their daughter, Catherine, ROXBURGH as a third name. This must mean something but ??? Still researching BURN, YOUNGER and SCOTT from the Borders. Our Thomas SCOTT married Jane EWING in Glasgow c1820; a coincidence??? It is worth a try. Thanks. John Edmonds
