To those folk interested in the above farms in the Jedburgh area. In the 1881 Census I found the Pleasesnts, 2 families of Fergusons and a Fred Galloway b Edin. 1852, living Pleansants Schoolhouse , Schoolmaster of Elem. Pub. School. don't know where his pupils were. I would say the locals said Pleasance, Census place was Jedburgh. Someone else wanted to know about Under Hindhope, it is next to Upper Hindhope near Oxnam. both large farms 2000 acres & 3000 acres with a few shepherds. These are near the Scottish/English Border with the sheep roaming the moors. I would think that the Hindhope farms are there. I need to find out if there was a family of Runciman's living on Newbigging Farm, Lauder or Newbigging Walls Farm, Lauder (I believe that they are both farms). I need the 1841 census checked and the 1851 census checked also. The 1831 census would be good- if there was one? > >I think the head of the family would have been Thomas Runciman and wife Mary Ridpath. > >I would just love to know anything at all about these farms and who worked on them at the time of the censuses. > >Thank you once again, > >Alethea. >
