    3. Hi... I have had this problem for a very, very long time now - wonder if anyone can help me? My GGGG Grandfather, Walter Hislop was born in Stobo, Peebles in 1796 - from a very basic tree he was said to be the son of James - have found him to be the son of JOHN HISLOP and JANET ROBERTSON. I know that he had four sisters that married in Peeblesshire. I have tried over a number of years to complete his list of siblings... but find no further information on John HISLOP and Janet ROBERTSON - a mge or both being named in their childrens' christening entries. Even Origins has left me wanting for information! I have tried every trick I can think of! With amazing kindness from another researcher I have found two sisters - Elizabeth (presumably baptised as Betty) in 1791, Stobo to John HYSLOP and a Janet (which seemed likely and logical!) bn c 1798, Stobo both parents were named in their death certs. I have been unable to find a christening/bapt entry for Janet. So far the basic 'old family' information is proving mostly right... Can anyone suggest how I might find John HISLOP/HYSLOP and Janet ROBERTSONs mge (presuming they did!) so that I at least anticipate when they started having children... Are there 'holes' in the Parish records? I also checked the Peeblesshire MI's but have been unable to find a trace of this couple - I guess they either moved out of Peeblesshire or perhaps their gravestone(s) do not still exist - or ever did? I know they both died before 1856. At this stage I have 2 sons, 2 daughters born between 1791 and 1798 all Stobo. Thanks, in anticipation! Pam
