I am researching Alexander McGERRIE/McGARY who was born 4June 1819 in the parish of Clieff. He was the illegitimate son of Isabella Philp. Isabella Philp was the daughter of Walter Philp and Isabella Black. On 23 August 1844 Alexander married Isabella Manderson the daughter of Elizabeth Gun and Alexander Manderson. At the marriage Alexander was using the McGerrie name. I don't know when or why his name was changed to McGerrie from Philp. It may have been his father's name or his mother may have married. Isabella and Alexander McGerrie had Walter born 1845, Elizabeth born 1846, Jean born 1850 and John born 1852. The immigrated to the U.S.A. about 1852 and about a year later moved to Weston, Ontario Canada where other children were born. Then they moved to Humphrey Twp. Dist. of Parry Sound, Ontario, Canada.
