    3. Hi all; My brick wall is pretty solid at this point--no chinks in the morter even yet!! :o) I have a HALLIDAY family in Dumfries, more specifically Sanquhar. However, despite there being many HALLIDAYs in the area, none seem to be mine. I have a KETLEY (various spellings) that no one seems to have in this area (some in England) I am looking for Richard HALLIDAY, wife/commonlaw (don't know for sure) Jean (Jane?) KETLEY (also spelt KETLAY, KETLAW, KEIGHTLEY, and likely other variations!). Richard and Jean had at least two children: Agnes, born 1843, and Archibald, born 1847. Jean remarried (or living commonlaw with someone else?) to a Maurice WELSH, and had a son with him during 1851; George. In the 1881 census George WELSH is the head of the family, Jean KEIGHTLEY is listed as his mother, Agnes HALLIDAY (daughter from first marraige/commonlaw) is listed as sister, and Janet HALLIDAY is listed as Agnes,s daughter. I have not been able to find Richard HALLIDAY at all, birth, living, or death records, except for his name on his two children's parish records, and name on his son's marraige certificate. Jean later had a daughter, Margaret, born (1884) that carried her surname of KETLEY. Archibald moved to England before 1871, and was a soldier at Chelsea Barricks in the 1871 census. He married later that year, to Harriet HUBBARD, and spent the next 10 years living in Suffolk (Lowestoft), or Chelsea. His youngest child is born in the Oulton, Suffolk workhouse. His wife and three children are living in the workhouse in the 1881 census, but no sign of Archibald at all. In fact a couple kind people have checked the 1881 census, but could find no Archibald HALLIDAY anywhere that seemed to fit the bill. He is buried in Lowestoft, with a death date in the 1900's. No idea where he went in the interim. Perhaps he returned to Scotland??? Any leads for this family would be greatly appreciated. Take care, Cindy Gilbert Sylvan, Ontario, Canada
