We have been unable to find their marriage along with any baptisms of their 8 children. My brother has looked at LDS films for Oxnam and Morebattle without success. Last week I was looking at the LDS film for Southdean in the hope that I had tracked them down, but to no avail. They were more than likely Presbyterians, but I do not know where to find their records. I have been unable to find them on the OPR's on Scots Origins. Thomas HALL was baptised at Birdhopecraig Presbyterian, NBL 8/2/1801 son of John and Betty HALL of Cottonshopeburnfoot, NBL. Janet HENDERSON was born 17 Nov 1800 at Belford Mill, Morebattle, ROX., daughter of Adam and Janet HENDERSON. Our next sighting is the 1841 census for Oxnam, Hindebank-Townfoot, ROX. with four of their children (John,10, Janet, 4, George, 3 and Betty, 6 months, all born Oxnam) and a servant Janet SCOTT aged 75, Oxnam. The 1851 census for Oxnam, Phaup, gives Thomas's birthplace as Elsdon, NBL, (the parish he was born in)working as a Shepherd, along with his wife. At home were children, William, 16, Shepherd, Janet, 14, Scholar, George,12, Scholar, Elizabeth, 11, Scholar, Isabella, 9, Scholar and Thomas, 7 along with Elizabeth TELFER, 19, House Servant, Oxnam. In 1841, both William and my gr grandfather Adam, 8, were with relatives at Morebattle, Kelsocleugh, and in 1851 Adam and John were with relatives at Morebattle, Corbett House. The death cert. for Thomas gives no relevant information. Adam's wedding and death certificates cannot shed any more light. Are there any indexes for Scotland similar to the GRO indexes in England? How can they be accessed? Does the Scottish Record Office release Birth certs. if you only know the year your ancestors were born? Any help or clues will be greatly appreciated. Regards, Gil. Hall.
