Hello, I am trying this for a third time. I am very new to the use of this web site. To Gary, thankyou for the information on the town Rutherford and the family history. It was just great. I am currently researching for the deaths of my 3x G.Grandfather, Robert Rutherford, b 1805 Maxton and his wife Betsy Oliver, born 1807, Jedburgh. They were still alive in 1874 when their son Oliver got married in Edinburgh to Mary Marston. I am trying to find them on the 1871 census.I have also been unable to trace their marriage which would have been in the late 1820's in Roxbourghshire. Their Grandson, George Rutherford, came out to New Zealand in 1889/90 and settled in the port of Lytellton in the South Island. His father was James Rutherford, 5th child of Robert and Betsy ( Elizabeth ). Has anyone come across this family from Roxburghshire ? Dianne Dixon, New Zealand.
