Hi Ann, Thought I would also answer to the list as I know others are on this name. The name Alison also got my attention. I have a James Watherston,died 28 Jul 1800, 76y in Greenlaw and his wife Alison Brack,died 23 Mar 1806, 79y from Greenlaw MI's. Only son I have is Nicol born 1752 and marries Janet Fairbairn, 29 Nov 1783, Longformacus. Now, of his children are James,1787, thomas,1791, and Nicol, 1793. As you see, an Alison fits very nicely in abt 1789 esp the name. If your Gardiner down line has any Nicols in it since it is somewhat less common, I think we are on to something.
