Kerry If you wouldn't mind, I would very much appreciate your help in finding a birth/baptism record for my gt gt grandfather Matthew SPENCE, apparently born in Cornhill in 1823/4. Father's name Robert SPENCE, mother Jane. It would also be interesting to hear of other SPENCEs you might come across while you're looking. The mother Jane was from Scotland, but I don't know any more about the origins of Robert SPENCE who was already dead when I first find Matthew, his wife Margaret (MOFFATT) and his mother Jane in Carham in the 1851 census.
