The index is already there, so you can check if the entry is there. http://www.scotlandspeople.gov.uk/ The IGI (extracted records) is based on the OPR so it might be worth having a look there first http://www.familysearch.org/ BUT make sure that you check that the data you find is extracted from the records and not patron-submitted. Also, I've found entries in SP that aren't in the IGI. Even if you don't use the SP database, have a look at their web site - bottom right of the front screen is a very good "getting started" section which will tell you what's available.
