Hello List I wonder if anyone can help me with a bit of a dry stane dyke: My ggg grandmother was a Jane/Jean Carson born circa 1786 - all censuses record her birth as 'Scotland'. She married a James Burgess in 1807 in the parish of Kells (New Galloway, KKB). On the marriage entry it says that she was 'from Kirkmabreck'. The only record that I can find for there is a Jean Culloch Carson b. 1786 to Esther Crae/MCrae and William Carson. None of her many daughters were called either Esther/Hester or Crae. One was called Ann Smith Burgess. In a piece on her descendants, published in a pamphlet in Arran Township, Ont, Canada it states that she 'was from a wealthy manufacturing family living near the border' - which side is not stated. She refused to go to Canada apparently because she wished to stay near them. James and Jean were never wealthy, so I'm not sure what happened. They eventually moved to a farm near Bala,Wales in 1833. She died in 1870. Grateful for any help, ideas, advice. Judy
