Hi all It has been some time since I sent out a query for information on my ancestors. My gggrandfather was John Cleghorn b. 1769 in Roxburghshire. His wife was Isabel Oliver b. abt. 1777 in Hawick Parish the daughter of John Oliver and Agnes Ekron. They were married by a Mr. Paton in Ettrick, Selkirk, Scotland on June 14, 1799. They lived for many years on Falnash farm in the upper part of Hawick Parish where we believe John was a shepherd. They emigrated to Guelph, Ontario, Canada in 1831 with 7 of their 11 children. The 4 girls who stayed in Scotland were: Janet b. 1800 (infant death); Helen b. 1804 m. to Walter Laidlaw; Elizabeth b. 1806 m. ?; Eliza b. 1810 m. ? John and Isabel carried a letter of introduction with them to Canada from their preacher Gavin Turnbull of Carlenrigg Chapel, Hawick dated May 17, 1831. We don't know what port they left from in Scotland or came to in Canada and haven't been able to find any ships lists showing their names. If anyone has any ideas on where we could find this information it would be greatly appreciated. We are especially looking for siblings and/or parents of John. If anyone thinks John or Isabel (or any of the girls who stayed in Scotland) may be a part of their family tree I would love to hear from you. Thanks Mary Ellen (Cleghorn) Pilmer
