Hi Mary I wonder if there could be any connexion between our families. My 3xgreat-grandmother was Ann (or Agnes depending which record you read) EASTON born about 1787 at Cornhill (according to Census Returns). She married Charles BLYTH - don't know where or exactly when but they had the following children: James BLYTH born 1811 North Learmouth Eleanor BLYTH born 1814 Paston Jane BLYTH born 1816 Mardon Jessie BLYTH born 1820 Newbiggin, Norham Stephen BLYTH born 1822 Sunnilaws John BLYTH born 1824 Newbiggin, Norham James BLYTH born 1825 Ancroft George BLYTH born 1828 Thornton Isabella BLYTH born 1831 Norham (my 2xgreat-grandmother) As you can see some of the names of Ann's children are similar to your family - James and John - also the Jessie you mentioned you had found. Ann was probably the right age to be a sister to John. I have been unable to find a baptism for Ann - although I do know that her father was named Stephen from baptisms of some of her children at Crookham Presbyterian Church. Also baptised at Crookham during the 1820s were children to a William SMITH and his wife Elizabeth, daughter of Stephen EASTON, who I presume was a sister to my Ann. I am presuming Ann and Elizabeth EASTON were presbyterian and that is why I am having difficulty finding baptisms. I did find a couple of burial entries in the Cornhill registers for a Mark (1783) son of Stephen EASTIN, Tilmouth and William (1791) son of Steven EASTEN, Cornhill - which suggests they may have been brothers to my Ann. I would welcome your thoughts on this I have been stuck with this line for a few years now. Did your John have any other children - are any of the names similar to the BLYTH names above? By the way Learmouth (East and West) is just South of Cornhill, I think in Carham Parish and Hagg is a little further South again. His parents John and Elizabeth were said to be from Old Learmouth. Can anyone tell me where that was or is, please? >I don't know if there is any connection but in an earlier baptism entry in 1815 a Scott Easton was listed as son of Jesse Easton , single, a woman of Haig in the Parish of Carham.
