I am having a lot of difficulty trying to find a marriage of James LANDLES to Sarah WHITEHEAD their first child ( James ) was born in Berwick upon Tweed in 1850. I have looked at the Civil registrations for many years before that date also after in case they got married after the children were born. I have even looked in Scotland for their marriage with no results. Is there a list of Marriages performed by other than Church Officials ?I thought I read somewhere there were some irregular marriages. Any help on this problem I would appreciate. I also understand they may have not got married as I think at that time they called it Common Law wife. But as they had the children Baptised it makes sense they did marry.
