Have been pondering this. I have looked at quite a lot of Jedburgh newspapers from about 1875 to the 1940s and I think I have seen an article on a popular minister leaving. You also get mention of former citizens who have emigrated and made good. These people sometimes made a gift to their birthplace. I think I can also recall a story about an elderly women leaving with her family. In short, I think there would have to be an 'angle' that made the event newsworthy.
