    3. Hello, Is this only for Berwickshire? I might be interested in transcribing Selkirk parish records. As you can imagine, it is a huge project and will take a long time to do. I am the County Coordinator for Berwickshire and have all of the films available for distribution to interested volunteers to transcribe. > > If your Family History research is in one particular area or parish, then why not volunteer to transcribe that area for FreeREG and get the FULL details for your family from the original registers. All you need is to have, or have access to, a microfiche reader (the film is cut up into strips) - and we use a Windows program called WinREG to enter the data into. Unfortunately we cannot have cds for this project. When searching my wife's origins in BEWshire I soon found that the OPR Index lacked very many of the events, which were clearly readable in the LDS microfilms. Bit of a shock!! And since buying a set of the Brit Isles Vital Records Index CDs, I was happily shocked to find pre- 1855 Scotland records indexed for the first time, including non- conformist church sources. It is the case that Catholic, Methodist, Baptist, Episcopal etc etc Churches Registers were archived in General Register Hse not New Reg Hse hence cannot be searched online nor in remote libraries. I wish you and your team every success and if not too late, drop the <OPR> term which is specific to Ch of Scotland, and continue to use the term PRE 1855 VITAL RECORDS or similar. And go hunt out the registers of the very many churches outwith the Established Church.
