I am new to this list and I am hoping someone might be able to assist me please. I have a copy of the birth entry (from the scotlandspeople site) of Henry Craig born 25 May 1861 at Lintlaw, Parish of Bunkle & Beston, County Berwick. He is the illegitimate s/o Luke Craig (female) who is described as house or domestic servant. My request is if someone who has a copy of the 1861 census could see if they can find Luke Craig for me in the town of Lintlaw. I have tried looking her up in the census index but to no avail, so I presume the name is spelt differently. I have not been able to find her in the 1851 or 1841 census either, but I don't know which Parish she may have been living in, but I thought I should be able to find her in the 1861 census as I now have an address for her. Dear Vicki: I haven't been successful in finding Luke either....except that I found a birth in the IGI as follows: Luke CRAIG, born 25 March 1833, Collessie, Fife, Scotland Father: Henry CRAIG Mother: Margaret LENNOX A strong clue may be that she has named her son after her father. Also: In the 1861 census (www.ancestry.co.uk), there is a Margaret CRAIG (sister-in-law), aged 34, born Collessie, Fife with daughter Margaret CRAIG (niece), aged 5, born Bunkle, living with an ANDERSON family at Collessie, Fife. Her occupation is listed as Ag Lab. Presumably Mrs. Eliza ANDERSON is a sister to Margaret. I wonder if Luke belongs to the same family? Nevertheless, I haven't been able to find Luke in any of the censuses (1841, 1851, 1861).
