    3. There's no obvious link of common names but I'm curious about your Eastons as I have been helping a friend with his family research and his gt-gt grandparents were James Easton, b. abt 1807 & Mary Henderson b. abt 1803. They emigrated to Ontario after their marriage in Southdean 27 Feb 1829 and probably after the birth of two sons Robert & William who I believe were born in Scotland. Best regards, Jessie

    3. Dear Jessie, The cross border bit, plus no registered births and irregular marriages makes tracing back pretty hard.My earliest definate ancestor was John Easton, who from ages on 1841 census and death suggests a birth in 1783 in Scotland( he was then living in Donaldson's Lodge, Cornhill). His son James was baptised in 1819 in Cornhill to John and Elizabeth. I've not even been able to find Elizabeth's death. A fam. trad. which may be wrong says she was a Hay.I've not been able to establish if James had siblings at all. There were other Eastons in the area, Stephen and his descendants but there are no Stephens in my tree so that may be coincidence. My best hunch for John's parents were Andrew Easton and his wife Elizabeth Aitkin who moved into the Cornhill area from Hutton, Berwickshire. They had a John born in 1877. They also had a William, an Andrew, possibly a Margaret and a James and an Elizabeth(all family names).Their James died 1798 aged 6, but often later children wee given the same name.So although it isn't such a common name seeing how and if the Eastons on both sides of the border were connected seems pretty impossible. If you think there may be links I'd be glad for any leads. There were family members who emigrated. James brother in law Thomas Lewins emigrated to Hamilton, Canada in the 1840s and subsequently to California. James eldest son John emigrated to America in 1872. My grandfather James, his younger son was born and died in the same house in Tilmouth.
