Trish, I have the MI book for Stichill and Hume. I am afraid there are no HOODs in it or a name which could be similar. My husband is descended from Margaret Robertson who married Robert Leitch c.1795-1800. They both came from Stichill and Hume and are buried at Hume Churchyard. Her parents were Andrew Robertson and Margaret Smail from Hume. I have not been able to trace them as yet but Andrew must have been born about the same time as your Robert. Can you see any connection? The only Robertsons in the Stichill and Hume MI book from roughly the right period are Robert Robertson who died at Hume 19.7.1884 aged 92 years (born c.1792) and Lt Col. Donald Robertson born 14.3.1765 and died 10.2.1824. I have the books for Sprouston and Crailing. There are three other Hood entries other than the one you know about in the Sprouston book. She would have been born approx. 1754. She was buried in Sprouston in 1809, but I'm looking to see if her relations may have been buried in Hume. Thank you.
