I am trying to research the TINLIN family, which I understand originated in Roxburghshire. JAMES TINLIN born c. 1843, Kelso Railway Carter, Wagon Driver m. CATHERINE SCOTT born c. 1842, Carham, Northumberland m. 18/2/1867, South Sunderland Children: Ellen Tinlin, born 1868, Sunderland Charles Tinlin, born 2/3/1869, Kelso Thomas Tinlin, born 29/6/1870, Kelso Catherine Tinlin, born 26/4/1872, Kelso Margaret Tinlin, born 1876, Newcastle James Tinlin, born 1879, Newcastle Archibald Tinlin, born 1882, Newcastle Joan Tinlin, born 1885, Newcastle I have no knowledge of James' origins, except that he was born in Kelso according to the 1871 census for Kelso. I suppose the next step would be to look for the 1861 census for Kelso to see if I can find him on that. He would then be about 18, and presumably living with his parents.
