Dear All This is my first posting to the Borders list although I have been using the Dumfries and Galloway list for some time. My entry into that area was via my grandmother, Wilhelmina LIDDLE, who was born in Kelton Parish, Castle Douglas in 1870. Through the IGI, Scottish Origins, the Mitchell Library, Glasgow, etc. I have managed to trace all her siblings. Her father, James LIDDLE, was born in the Gorbals, Glasgow. There were a number of brothers and sisters but I have not managed to trace them yet. His father, Robert LIDDEL (the sirnames seem to be interchangeable) was born near Duns, Berwickshire, which is why I was so interested in the Borders list. Robert was born in 1812 at Bunkle. His parents were Robert LIddel and Agnes Dickerson. There were two other sons, James born in 1801 in Duns and David born in 1807 in Bunkle. I would very much like to know if anyone has found any LIDDLES in this area. I have had help in Dumfries and Galloway from the MIs which are indexed. Is there a similar index for the Duns area? Also the Ewart Library in Dumfries have an excellent indexing service from local papers. Is their inything similar in Berwickshire? Thanks in advance, Susan (near Helensburgh)

My list shows a Jemima LIDDEL who married George GRAHAM of Eskdalemuir, Dumfriesshire, about 1855. They apparently had 15 children. Don't have any information about Jemima's origins. -----Original Message----- From: Bob Saxton [mailto:Bob@saxton.prestel.co.uk] Sent: May 20, 2000 9:31 PM To: BORDER-L@rootsweb.com Subject: LIDDLE family Dear All This is my first posting to the Borders list although I have been using the Dumfries and Galloway list for some time. Interesting to see so many LIDDLE/LIDDEL postings -- I'm looking for the LITTLE family from Langholm, Dumfries. My great great great grandmother was Janet LITTLE born about 1769 at Langholm; married 1788 Andrew TURNBULL, and d at Hawick, Roxburgh1839. Do you suppose there's any connection between the LIDDLEs and the LITTLEs?? I know the LITTLE family was connected with the Border Reivers - would that account for a name change???
