    3. Regarding the mention of the surnames SMAIL and TURNBULL in reference to the JEDBURGH area - My grgrgrandfather's youngest sister Susan PATERSON married John SMAIL on 24 June 1868 at Jedburgh. Their known & documented children were: Thomas SMAIL b. 1 Jan 1872 Kelso Ellen Clark SMAIL b. 22 Dec 1873 Kelso Francis SMAIL b. 5 Dec 1875 Kelso Mary SMAIL b. 27 Feb 1877 Kelso Another sister Agnes PATERSON married Andrew JOHNSTONE on 16 May 1856 at Jedburgh. Of their seven known & documented children, two married persons named TURNBULL: Francis(Frank) JOHNSTON b. 6 Jun 1856 Jedburgh, married Catherine TURNBULL b. 20 Apr 1863 Morebattle, on 5 Mar 1886 at Eckford Ellen(Helen) JOHNSTON b. 27 Apr 1863, Eckford, married Walter Turnbull b. abt Mar 1859 Morebattle, on 11 Feb 1887 at Eckford. Catherine Turnbull and Walter Turnbull were siblings. Any information on these individuals, their descendants, or general information on the SMAIL and TURNBULL families of the Jedburgh area, would be appreciated. A for the postcard you are right, it would be much later than 1877 due to legal restrictions - basically postcards as we know then didn't exist at the time. Local postcard publishers included the Smails, and Turnbulls, who took over their shop. Also Clappertons - and national firms like Valentine of Dundee. Judy
