    3. Hi Judy, George was a Rural Police Officer and in the 1861 census for Mauchline he was Superintendent of Police. His parents died back in Dryfesdale, Dumfries in 1825 and 1827. He had one more son born at Dryfesdale in 1829 after which time George and his family (with the exception of his eldest son Walter Carlyle Carruthers who remained in Middlebie, Dumfries) disappeared until the 1861 census above.
