My comments on the name spelling is still warranted, but as the existing indexes are primarily Established Church registers, consider that the family may have been of another denomination at the time of any event (Roman Catholic/ /Quaker/ Baptist/). many Church of Scotland parish churches failed to keep proper registers of death; I suspect that Church of England parish could similarly be remiss. It is worth asking about death/burial registers for the parishes you identify with the family. English civil registration began in 1837, but for many years was not compulsory. Gordon.
