Hi Listers, I am new to the list and wonder if anyone may be able to help me. I am searching for a missing marriage and three missing births. Kate ROPER married (John?) WILSON probably between 1901 and 1909 Edna Florence WILSON born 20th April 1908 Kenneth WILSON born 1911 Victor WILSON born approx 1914 I have searched all the English records in vain. I have tried all the variations of spellings and have even tried looking for the children with the surname ROPER. Family rumour has it that my grandmother was born in Newcastle, but due to the complete absence of records I am starting to think it must have been Scotland. Can anyone help please? This is driving me mad! Caroline (apologies to anyone who is also on the Midlothian list as I have posted this query there too) --------------------------------- Yahoo! Do look in the 1881 census for Ropers in the Newcastle area , Cowpen ----- Original Message ----- From: "caroline stanley" <carolinegen@yahoo.co.uk> To: <BORDER@rootsweb.com> Sent: Thursday, May 31, 2007 3:49 PM Subject: [BORDER] ROPER / WILSON - Help needed please. > Hi Listers, > > I am new to the list and wonder if anyone may be able to help me. > > I am searching for a missing marriage and three missing births. > > Kate ROPER married (John?) Hi, On 1 Jun 2007, at 17:36, Wally wrote: > Do look in the 1881 census for Ropers in the Newcastle area , > Cowpen For BMD registrations, Cowpen, near Blyth, came under Tynemouth. In censuses, people frequently gave the name of the nearest big town or city when people were unlikely to know their village. Good hunting Jim Balmer
Thanks Jim and Wally, Unfortunately any Ropers are probably a red herring. I have located my Kate living in Norfolk in 1901 with her family. It is after that that she goes astray. I suspect the northern connection is on the Wilson side and that she came up here to marry him.If had more details to enable me to identify my Mr Wilson on his own I could check the 1881, however as there are so many John Wilsons I suspect I need to find the actual marriage to Kate some time between 1901 and 1915 to establish a link...I have the fourth child registered as a Wilson in 1916 so at the very least they must have married before then. Any ideas?
