Hello, everyone. Is there anyone out there who is researching a SMITH family from around Edrom and Chirnside in Berwick? George SMITH married Jean RUNCIMAN on the 30-5-1844 in Chirnside Berwick and had: Henry SMITH b.7-3-1845 Chirnside Mary SMITH b. 19-1-1847 Buncle and Preston Elizabeth Bertram SMITH b.5-7-1848 Edrom Isabel SMITH b. 17-6-1850 Edrom Thomas SMITH b. 14-7-1852 Edrom John SMITH b. 3-1-1854 Edrom William SMITH b. 7-5-1857 Edrom George SMITH b. 22-2-1860 Coldingham Catherine SMITH b. 25-8-1863 Edrom There are far too many SMITH's for me to sift through and I really need some help from anyone who has an 1851, 1861 and 1871 census for Berwickshire. I have found some on the 1881 census and it was taken in Chirnside where they were living in an Agricultural Labour Cottage. On the 1881 census are two grandchildren listed to the head of the family- William SMITH who was 10 years old and born in Whitsome, Berwick, and George SMITH who was 8 years old and born in Mordington, Berwick. The parents are not apparent on the extract that I have and a search on the IGI or scots origins would no doubt be less than fruitful due to the sheer number of SMITH's around at that time. I really need to know if there were any RUNCIMAN's living with the SMITH's if anyone looks at the censuses for me. Once again, thank you very much for any help that you can give. Good luck with your own searches and thank you for reading this. Alethea.
