    3. As someone reared in Roxburghshire I cannot recall at anytime hearing CLARK, they were always CLERKS. CLARK was English pronunciation. Also there were very few Priests in 1950s as most of the folk were Presbyterian, I remember at High School in Kelso when at the end of Term we were all marched to St Johns Church, the Catholics left the line to go to their church, and there was only a handful. Maxton and Bowden would have been Church of Scotland and the Preacher would have been the " Minister". Selkirk may have had a RC church.
