I'm having some difficulty tracking my gg grandfather and ggg grandfather, both named John Darling and both from Berwickshire. Part of the problem is that family lore identifies the younger John Darling as having been born in 1824 at Kelso, while FamilySearch on the Internet says John Darling was born 11 May 1824 at Edrom to John Darling and Elisabeth Wight. Scottish Church records from the LDS say John Darling was born 11 May 1824 at Duns. Cemetery records at Aspdin, Muskoka, Ontario, Canada, where the Darlings settled after emigrating about 1850, says the younger John Darling's mother, Elizabeth, was born in 1801 and died in 1888. FamilySearch identifies her as Elisabeth Wight, married to John Darling on 3 May 1823 at Duns. born about 1802 in Berwickshire and died in 1843 in Scotland. Her husband, the elder John Darling, is shown as born in May 1800 in Berwickshore and died 7 Jun 1872 in Vernon, Waukesha, Wisconsin, USA after a second marriage to Susan Bertram.
