Francis Ballantyne (c. 1749-1834) was my g.g.g.g.grandfather and builder of the first house to be completed in the village of Newcastleton in 1793. In 1840 three generations of his descendants (among them my g.g.g. grandfather William, my g.g. grandfather Francis and my g. grandfather John aged 10 years) emigrated from Roxburghshire to the Leeds-Grenville County area of Ontario (Canada West.)
