Hi everyone! Bear with me please while I try to sort out my DOUGLASS (extra "s" is arbitrary but this familly seems to have favouredI it) family who were in Spittal (Berwick-upon-Tweed) about 1839-1855. There is a substantial "nest" of them there earlier and certainly later, but I cannot connect either through census (viz 1841, 1861 - have them on the 1851) or parish records. There are more in Berwick-upon-Tweed, including a very possble family - but no proof. These people didn't stay tidily in one place to make it easy for their descendants to find! On that basis I am now wondering if the DOUGLASS I am concerned with came from further afield. 1.DOUGLASS Robert born C1790 (but where?) He may also have been a John. = SKELLY Isabella born 1789 Alnwick but living Tweedmouth 1791 and then Berwick-upon-Tweed. These parents may not be the correct ones, but I won't bore you all with my reasons for supposing they are. ...2.DOUGLASS Several children stretching from 1812 to 1824, of the above parents and possibly siblings of my ancestor. ...2.DOUGLASS Robert 1814 (calculated from death cert.) - 1847. He was a tailor. ...= ATKINSON Elizabeth 1816- born Berwick-upon-Tweed. Cannot find marriage record. I am hoping that somebody knows of a Robert DOUGLASS who belonged nearby and raced off to Spittal / Berwick / Tweedmouth pursuing work of some kind.
