    3. Hi, Valerie The Scottish Borders Archive & Local History Centre at Selkirk can supply you with a copy from the microfilm of entry in the Old Parish Records for Kelso. It might or might not give details of parents, as there was no standard form of entry. Did you look up this record in the IGI? I was able to call it up quite easily from the FamilySearch main search screen at http://familysearch.org by just putting in Isabella's name and noting that I wanted her marriage in 1811. Once you get to her marriage record, you will notice at the bottom a number of links: Source Information: Batch No.: Dates: Source Call No.: Type: Printout Call No.: Type: M117937 1597 - 1819 1067946 Film 6901384 Film Sheet: 00 You can do some interested stuff with the Batch #, but the Source Call # gets you: Film or fiche number: 1067946 Film/fiche search results Parish registers, 1597-1854 Church of Scotland. If you have searched the IGI without success for your person of interest, searching the Old Parish Register (OPR) indexes and OPRs themselves is still useful, in case they were missed. Baptisms and marriages in the OPRs can be searched using a computerized index, either on a county basis or searching over the whole country. The index gives the reference number for the relevant microfilm roll together with the frame number (page), allowing you to go straight to the record you are interested in, once you order in the OPR film. You can access the Old Parish Registers online, by opening an account at http://www.scotsorigins.com/. However, you must find the record you want in the IGI first, then pay them to transcribe the record. Scotland's People has an index of Scottish births 1553-1903, marriages 1553-1928, deaths 1855-1953, and indexed census data 1881-1901. Again, you find your record in the indexes, then order a copy of the original record. Sometimes Scotland's People has records that were missed in the IGI, and thus not available through Scot's Origins. It only costs about $3.50 to order the OPR film you want to your local FHC. If you search the OPR yourself, you can find collateral relatives too. You can also consult the indexes to baptisms and marriages on microfiche and CD-ROM in the FHC. Be aware that the computerized versions are merely indexes, and you should always consult the film of the OPRs themselves. The birth/baptism/christening index usually contain the individual's name, parent's name, event, date of event, parish, county, and film reference numbers. The marriage index usually contains the husband and wife's name, date of marriage, parish and county, and reference numbers. From the reference number you can order the microfilm which may or may not contain more information. The OPRs vary widely in quality and completeness. For more information about using your local FHC, see: http://valoriez.blogspot.com/2004/07/your-local-family-history-center.html I hope this was helpful. Others have given you detailed instructions on how to find the entry in the LDS Archives. However, do remember that the content of pre-1855 entries was entirely up to the local Minister or Parish Clerk. A "normal" entry will say something like "Kermit MacMuppet of this parish and Piegi MacPork of the Parish of Bass gave their intention to marry" or even "were married the [date]". Note that te parish designations were from where they were living at the time, not where they were born. Also note that some Ministers added more info - I have one entry that gives both sets of parents, others that give the local set of parents. Many give the witnesses. On the other hand, I have 2 Whitsome entries where they didn't mention the name of the bride! Just "Kermit MacMuppet was married this day". You won't know until you see the entry. I had a look in the Pigot & Co Directory for Southern Scotland 1825 (available from Archive CD Books) and there's no James Hardie listed as a Manufacturer anywhere in Rox. There are a couple of others (eg Joseph is a baker, John is a landowner). Of course, if they married in 1811, he might have been a bit young in 1825 and not taken over/started his business until later. It might be worth checking the 1841 census for them. > I feel like I'm constantly butting my head against a brick wall in> trying to unravel the origins of my LIETCH family. 3. Eleanor >From the information you have you can get a copy of the original document at least 3 ways If you search for the marriage yourself on the IGI (www.familysearch.org) you will find the source information: Batch No.: M117937 Source Call No.: 1067946 1)You can go to your local Family History Centre and for $5? USD ($5.69 CAD) order film #1067946. When the film comes in you can look up the record and get a copy. You might find other family members mentioned on the same film. If you go to the Family History Library Catalogue at the same site you will see that this film is for the Parish registers of the Parish Church of Kelso from 1597-1854, so there may be baptisms relevant to your search on the same film 2)You can order a copy of the record directly for $2 USD. ($2.27 CAD) You will need send in a form called "Requests for Photocopies - IGI and Sources". You can download the form by clicking on the {PDF] link here: http://www.familysearch.org/Eng/Search/Rg/frameset_rhelps.asp?Page=./researc h/type/Form.asp&ActiveTab=Type Since there is a $4 US minimum charge, you might want to order copies of other records from the IGI at the same time. 3) You can download a copy from http://www.scotlandspeople.gov.uk/ It will cost you at least 6 pounds or $13 CAD to access the records before you can order an extract. Bear in mind that the bride's parents may not be mentioned in the marriage record. 3. Hi, I'm still trying to track down the origins of my LIETCH family which I think is in the Berwick Upon Tweed border area. I've had some wonderful help from this list and hope I can prevail on listers once again for assistance. My 4x gt grandfather, Rev William LIETCH, had a sister by the name of Isabel/Isabella. Her 1852 death notice in the 'North and South Shields Gazette' stated she was widow of Mr James HARDY, manufacturer, Kelso. Someone gave me the following from IGI: > I have found > a marriage on the I.G.I. for an Isabella Leach to James Hardie on 28 April 1811 > at Kelso,Roxburgh,Scotland Where can I get a copy of this marriage record? Does anyone know if it would state the name of the bride's parents? I'm hoping this might turn out to be the documentation I need to reveal the parentage of my LIETCH ancestor. 3. Many thanks for the input, but MY Ann was a very elusive girl! I have no baptism, for her and on obvious family can be found for her? Ann's marriage to Thomas BARNES was irregular @ Paxton Toll, Shorewood, Northumberland, on 14 March 1835. the Census show her place of birth as Branxton Northumberland their sons Thomas's Birth Certificate 18 Apr 1848 shows the family living @ Brickfield parish of Tweedmouth, Thomas senior was a pitman. My only theory is Ann would have slotted in as the first born of Andrew Rankin & Alice Robson of Holburn Farm Lowick, but proving it is another matter Regards Arthur ----- Original Message ----- From: "Mandy Buchanan" <mysticmandy_gingerwitch@hotmail.com> To: <border@rootsweb.com> Sent: Saturday, November 18, 2006 7:52 PM Subject: [BORDER] Romanis Stuff and Rankin Hi I notice that Arthur is interested in the Rankin entry - I have the death notice from Scotlands People which might help you. Their marriage notice was in 1887 and is not really better to read but I will give you what I can see I think it was 13th April 1887 - I cant read the location and it was after Banns according to the Church of Scotland George Rankin - Writer to the Signet (that means he was a member of a society to which solicitors belonged) and he was a bachelor aged 34 years and his residence looks like 26 Judia Street Edinburgh - his father was William Thomson Rankin deceased and his profession is very difficult to read but looks like ***** to the Parliamentary Council - his mother appears to be Sheila Rankin ms Pringle One of the Witnesses is AJ Rankin - but it does not say whether this was male or female. I hope that helps. Certainly the family appear to be quite prominent in the area and so records may exist - Have you tried putting Ann Rankin into a free search of Testaments on the Scotland's People website. If the family were fairly wealthy then she may very well have left a will and the good thing about Scottish records is that women were listed under both their married and maiden names. 3. I'm interested in finding possible MIs and wills for Kenneth and Barbara LIECH/LEITCH/LIETCH of the Berwick Upon Tweed area circa 1819-1822. I'm trying to determine if they were the parents of my 4x gt grandfather, Rev. William LIETCH (ca 1774-1852). Barbara Lietch of Greenses was buried 15.1.1819 (Jan 15,1819), age 71 Kenneth Lietch of Greenses was buried 7.5.1822 (May 7,1822), age 78 I found their burial dates in a LEITCH file at the North Shields Library. It cited that the burial date information is from the George Bell list of Burials in Berwick Upon Tweed. I'd deeply appreciate any suggestions to help me locate MIs or wills for these people. Thank you, Eleanor Clouter, Canada

I was looking at a set of pictures that I received of my birthmother's family and there is a John (Johnny) Rankin in two of the pictures. These were taken circa 1932. If you think he might belong to you, I'd be happy to scan and email them to you. Diana Reno, NV S&A <starwall@optusnet.com.au> wrote: G'Day Carmel.
