I should certainly be most grateful indeed if anyone has any knowledge of the origins, earlier ancestry or any living descendants of any of the following people. The Parish Registers have been exhausted for clues. John Wilson and his wife Janet Ralston resided at Muirhouse, Applegarth, having children there from 1791 onward. I am also interested to know how John connects with the other Wilsons in Muirhouse. William Porteous and his wife Janet Steel, who were married 11 March 1794 at Applegarth and resided for some time at Fourmerkland in that Parish. William Wilson and his wife Janet Porteous, who resided at Dassfauld, Tundergarth in the 1820s and 1830s and onward. A Johnston or Johnstone family who resided at Dornock around the 1820 to 1850 period and had a daughter Sarah born there about 1820 and married to James Wilson about 1848, later residing at Cleughhead, Tundergarth. If anyone has any Monumental Inscription records which might reveal anything, the same could be useful as well. Any information concerning the above mentioned farms, locations or places where any of these people lived would also be of interest. Thank you very much indeed. Even the vaguest clues will be very deeply appreciated indeed.

If you enter Cumrenton (with a 'u') in www.streetmap.co.uk it will take you to a map. Cumrenton is near Irthington just outside Brampton, east of Carlisle. Sandy Sike is just outside Longtown, north of Carlisle. You could also try entering Watson in www.thephonebook.bt.com to see if there is any family still in the area. Hope that helps. hi folks, i've just stumbled in this brilliant free resource while looking for something totally unrelated. I couldn't believe it :-) .. great if any of your forebears was connected to printing, publishing bookbinding &c :-) while some of their entries are fairly limited info-wise, others are wonderfully detailed. It's roughly in alphabetical order .. but some are strangely out of sequence so be prepared to double check if your name doesn't seem to be included - and bear in mind thosue obscure creative spellings our forebears were so good at :-] For instance, the pages for names M'Clure M'Goun are followed by Mearn Miller which are then followed by M'Gowan MacLachlan, then Miller Moodie..! http://www.nls.uk/catalogues/resources/sbti/index.html here are a few examples to whet your appetite: MacLACHLAN, Robert printer Dumfries Dumfries 1771-93 Robert Maclachlan apprenticed to Allan M'Lauchlan & Co booksellers and stationers Dumfries 1771. In the 1871 census Robert Grieve age 54 and family are living at Summerhope Ettrick. He called his home in Australia, Summerhope. I have been unable to find it on various maps and wonder if anyone knows where it was. Margaret
I am trying to locate Mr or Mrs Robert Watson or their family of Comrenton, Irthing, Carliste, Cumbria, England This address came to me from a family member who past away last year (2006). Isabelle Reid visited this family about 1979 This family are descendants of Robert Summers (born abt 1756) and Margaret Bell (born abt 1767). This couple moved with their family to Middlesex Co. Ontario about 1819. Robert Summers was about 65 years old at the time. Robert and Margaret were married 13 Nov 1798 apparently at Lanercost Parish, Cumberland The places that I know of connected to this family are Brampton, Irthing, Comrenton, Carlisle, Sandy Sikes This family is also tied to the families of Calvert, Robson and Routledge from the same area. I am hoping to learn more about this family but as there are several Summer's families and more than one parish I wish to know where Comrenton is located. I believe Comrenton is the name of the family farm. Thank you Joyce Nagy
